also because while villains have murderous overpowered magic users, the police does not. And while villains are overconfident quite often, the police does not want to die. It's kind of a side-effect in Icarus trying to intimidate future villains from messing with her family, in that it actually works best on reasonable people.

Most people withthe authority to do so wouldn't have much reason to, unless ICARUS threatened them, which I would think would make Alice very unhappy(unless Alice is also secretly a psycho).

Oh, can I start foreshadowing yet, smurf? I'm gonna tie Libera Arcana into my plot a little bit. Just a little bit.

USEC, if they 'bailed her out' that's resisting arrest, or refusing to show up for a civil court case and it would only make things worse for herself(although since she probably doesn't have rights in most countries, being an AI, it's already fairly bad). As well as giving the player group a rep as criminals.

Akroma, the difference is also this: there will be the altruistic cops who simply don't care. ICARUS broke the law and endangered people, and they're there to enforce the law, at the cost of their own lives if necessary. There's those people who you simply cannot threaten because it only hardens their resolve.

well, the finale of the vatican plot never played out. Maybe the new pope pulled some strings to protect us, afterall we basicaly saved christianity (inb4 next plot has militant atheists against us). Then again, he might still be mad because Icarus basicaly wrecked the sistine chapel. Damnit Icarus.

My villains tend to be a bit more morally dillemnic.

For example, when the PCs actually are in the wrong, and 'the bad guys', for once.

Which should probably happen a bit more often considering ICARUS M.O. Speaking of which, if the threats never work, why does she keep making them? All they do is warn the enemy if they didn't already know.

Actually, are you so sure about that? Considering all the magic in the world, and the advance of science, along with the growth of Islam, it could well be that depending on how far into the future this is supposed to be set, that might not be the case anymore.

I mean, leaving aside that most places aren't theocracies, or that many places aren't actually 'Christian nations'. Like Japan, or China, in today's world, as far as I'm aware.

The USA isn't average religiosity, after all, it's the high end of the scale.

Well as of the 5 year time skip, the Islamic countries of the Middle East have been in a sort of golden age in terms of advances, and definitely gaining some respect.
