I quit. I can't be bothered catching up, and I've got other projects of my own to work on. Do whatever with my lore, I don't particularly care anymore. Normally, I'd post all my PMs, but seeing as @Smurf might still be using the scenario I presented in them, it's probably for the best that I do not.

Cutscene

With hands behind its back, Null stands within the office, facing the equally upright visage of its origin. Or rather a phantasmal representation of them, taking the form of a lady in her mid-twenties, blonde hair cut short but still shoulder length, emerald eyes trained upon their guest. Both parties were in neat-casual attire.

Various weapons in varying degrees of completion litter the room; upon the window-side desk, a single-use transportation circle softly glows alongside a matte-black carry case. Said desk was what the aforementioned creator was lightly leaning against.

"Though one req-... er,"
Null's visage blurs, its right hand tightening into a fist before slowly relaxing as slow pulsations ripple through its form "Though I would like to know, if possible, whether the test was a success."

The illusion furrows its brow, eyes narrowing ever so slightly, as if in surprise or confusion. Did it know the meaning behind the expression? What the signifier signified? Or was it merely superficial, a countenance that through analysis, had been deemed appropriate for this kind of matter? Null knew not and doubt it ever would, yet another stain of ambiguity to blemish, or perhaps, embellish its life. Did it matter? Disingenuous or not, it represented an investment of effort nonetheless.

Slowly, it begins to enunciate with seemingly practiced pace "Is... it not, obvious?"
Gently pressing 'her' lips together, ever so slightly, the phantasm seems to hesitate for a moment, evidently still unfamiliar with the concept and use of language and optimum degree of concisely required "It was a success, no adverse effects occurred."

"Indeed... indeed..."
Null nods sadly, if someone were to gaze in upon this deliberation, if they were to have paid no heed to the idiosyncrasies of the two parties, it would have seemed as if the air had the consistency of treacle, or perhaps that this entire exchange was in slow motion. "So then... how many will die?"

"I, beg your pardon?"
The words came out softly, the tone laced with bemusement rather than indignation.
"That was the intent, yes? To kill more efficiently."

She pushes her closed left hand against her mouth, the proximal phalanx of her index finger against her lips. She holds the posture for a few seconds before swinging her arm to the side, her palm facing upwards.
"Yes, however..."
Clenching her hand and glancing towards it, she continues.
"That is merely the ideal. There is insufficient data to come to a conclusion on efficiency gains or lethality increases. As you may understand, there are more factors involved, and though war itself changes little, the technology improves, though this progression allows gains to be made, it is only an advantage if opposing variables have made less developments."
Turning to face the bewildered Null once more, the mirage rests her arm back by her side. It was an absurdity, how exactly, did this occur? How did something which could understand communication as well as a blind person could understand color manage to behave in such a manner?

"The Red Queen herself must run her own race it seems... Sorry, do continue."
"Constructs are not designed to, and never will replace soldiers. Especially not now, in an era of information warfare, where destruction of resolve is more important than destruction of lives. If I were to employ a heuristic, make an educated guess, then I would say this: whatever gains in construct lethality will be counteracted by losses in potential conflict deaths due to its changing nature. So my answer would be 'as many as those who die now', if an increase occurs, it is due to recent events and population growth."
With a nod, the test subject begins digesting that prospect. It was not as depressing as it had anticipated, however, it was not precisely comforting either. No judgement but no absolution either. Merely a continuation of the trends.

"One seems to have quite the grasp on human language."
"Why thank you, that was the least I could have done as your creator. It is better that acknowledge your work in your own tongue."
"One imagines such an act would be difficult. To change one's entire means of interaction. It is presumed one restructured? What about after this, surely, one cannot return and speak as such, that would be quite inconvenient."
"Correct. When this is all wrapped up, I will return to a similar state to what I was."
"But not exactly."
"But not exactly."
"One's creator is dead and shall never truly live again and one's current conversational partner will die and shall never truly live again once one leaves."
Null shakes its head numerous times, its gaze downcast.
"A pity, a terrible pity... nonetheless, one has no right to dictate the choices of another."
"Perhaps, but surely, if one changes, does one not die as well? Restructuring would be considered by humans to be the death of the very soul and yet I would consider anyone changing to be a form of restructuring. With each passing chronon, everyone changes, they see something, they learn something. Maybe it's important, maybe it's impertinent. But it still changes them, however slightly. Couldn't you say that they, in the next chronon would be a different individual than to the current? Could you not say, that everything dies with each passing instant, never to truly return? Just having this conversation, countless people are dying countless times, with their heirs never even knowing... Creative Destruction. One cannot live if one does not die. But I digress, I believe you have a more pressing matter to discuss?"

Null, having stared through the philosophy with as slightly less appreciation and reaction than that of a brick wall, nodded tersely "One wishes to sever all ties to the Red Queen. Particularly, I do not ever want to see you again. Better to part upon cordial terms as is the case presently, than to stay and undergo disillusionment. For my creation, I am grateful. For your generosity and company, I am grateful. But for the nature and purposes of one's actions, disgust and abhorrence alike threaten to encroach."
The accursed weapon is hurled forth, thirty-eight kilograms of imprecated metal clattering to a violent halt in front of the eidolon's feet. Kneeling to the ground, she carefully picks up the armament, cradling it whilst idly tapping it with her right index. As if the reaction were delayed, as if the surprise had resulted in a brief lapse of that strangely comforting verisimilitude of humanity, her eyes only widened, her mouth only half parted as if to deliver some nonexistent reply, when she was standing upright once more. Closing her eyes, it was now her turn to nod sadly. Placing the implement into the magic circle, she watches both entities vanish in a brief scintillation. She watches as Null awkwardly begins to turn away. Finally, she speaks "I understand. It has been a pleasure working with you. However..."

Producing a pistol from a nearby cabinet, she holds it by its oddly wide barrel. Ambidextrous safety, slide lock and magazine release bared towards Null. "You do need to protect yourself somehow. Nothing to do with the company, it's a custom of my own making, just for you. Think of it as something to remember me by."

Without a word, Null hesitantly moves its right hand to meet the handle, to close upon the grip. However, as its creator releases it, it is rather evident that the second part was not performed; zero point seven one kilograms of synthetic polymer and advanced metamaterial clattering to a violent halt in front of the eidolon's feet. "Sorry, one would rather not."

Spinning upon its heel, Null walks away.


Epilogue

Yet reality is often disobedient to the capricious vicissitudes of symbolism and poetic meaning. In six minutes twenty-seven point eight four seconds, Null was back in the office, fingers wrapping around the grip of zero point seven one kilograms of synthetic polymer and advanced metamaterial. "The attachments and whatnot are in here."
She remarks, placing the carry case next to Null with a kind chuckle.

And so, ushered off by a bright smile and wave, Null left the building, its new weapon securely contained within its case.


Denouement

Eyes tracking Null's departure from behind the office window, the apparition slowly sips a glass of absinthe. Footsteps approached from behind; one set was brisk, slightly echoing as they tapped upon the ground in a steady rhythm, the other indistinct, a near shuffle.
"Think they'll ever know the truth?"
"No, but does anyone ever find the truth? They'll live their life thinking that their creator cares for them, which they do, merely with a the addition of a few embellishments. After all, what's better, having them appear in human form and speaking like an actual person? Or standing there, looking no different from normal trying to explain how it spent all that time and effort trying yet failing? Anyway, everything is the truth until it is revealed as a lie."
"Sounds like what a politician might say. Morality aside, I must say, I am quite surprised... helping out from the goodness of your dead, mechanical heart? You're getting soft, Cyrielle."
"Oh~? Haze is actually using my actual name for once? To what honor do I owe this strange and unnatural phenomenon~? I simply decided, I felt like helping out a colleague of a friend. I'm not a cold-hearted psychopath now am I-"
"You were though."
"Heh, and I'm not entirely convinced you still aren't~ For the record, they weren't a colleague either."
"Okay, allegations from close friends notwithstanding, tit-for-tat still does start with mutual cooperation."
"This is isn't an iterative prisoner's dilemma."
"Sili, Cyri, could we please have this conversation in English? Or French? Or German? You know? Languages I actually understand?"
"Ehei"
"いや"
and thus the usual banalities continued on throughout the night.

There are pretty much no limits. Just write up a sheet, and if there are any problems I'll tell you.

For as many notches Icarus gets taken down, it depends highly on the outcome of the initial plot and the downtime inbetween and through the next plot, which has 6 different paths depending on your actions (though some are a bit unlikely). It's definetly a bunch of notches though, spread out over several chapters
