Pretty much. And even so, destroying the core will probably destroy a LOT of shit like a nuke of void magic. Kind of like how destroying the HYDRA's fusion reactor will create a nuclear blast.

@Empiricist: When dealing with things of that magnitude, could we please not try to involve abusable game mechanics?
@PrivateNomad: Why do you have to have a walking time bomb as your character(my own hypocrisy aside; that's for plot/char development, that's different )? Can't we just agree that the Core just, like, teleports to a location it deems safe(aka orbiting the sun from 500 million km or the Void) and toughens itself, then goes over subroutines to figure out what the fuck happened since it is the black box system?
@smurfingtonthethird: You really are kinda lax about these type of abilities, man. They should not be something mechanics even apply to. They are there for supreme dramatic effect and finishing blows on stupendously powerful earth-shattering behemoths that can only be defeated at great cost(thus the sacrificial strike). Or single-use extremely potent Worf Effects.

Actually it's more like the capabilities to not need to throw out a character entirely rather than escape perma-death.

That's escaping perma-death. Considering that there's no waitlist or respawn time, the only reason perma-death even carries weight is the threat of permanent character loss, removing that possibility violates the whole point of it.

considering the core has only mag and neither speed - and thus no intiative - nor defence nor health, Hilda would not get that huge last resort spell out. Any enemy would simply need to cough at the core

That's my point. That is not character loss. All it amounts to is the same character with different stats.
