Okay, I guess (dem timezones) it's not June 4th over where Toady lives (yet), but in Europe now it's the two years since the last DF version was released.

Pretty long time ago if you think about it, and yet most people are still here. In any other community the big part of the playerbase would likely quit after such a long period without any updates if I were to guess.

(What's funny is how it takes more time to release a new DF update than it takes to make a new CoD/BF game, as side note...)

But the new version comes soon, which is fascinating. I wonder if it will be as crazy as DF2010's release date... I seem to recall server crashing and other assorted hilarity.
And that was on an April 1st, where you'd expect people to initially think it was a prank. Ah, good times...

Things should be much better now.  All of the minecart paths in the server have been optimized, so the dwarfputing should be fast enough to handle demand this time around.

You're right. It's like DF is actually adding features, rather than retexturing its guns and releasing an expansion pack with new campaign and multiplayer levels.

I remember when DF2010 came out.  And the night creatures release. And the first release where clothing matter to happiness. 

Looking forward to playing the 3rd or 4th bugfixing release.  I'll keep playing 34.11 until then, and enjoy the crazy bug stories.

The half-life of any given Dwarf Fortress update is potentially unlimited. If it wasn't for Toady's teasing I could wait forever for that new version.
