This weekend is a possibility, but sometime next week is more likely.

I'm too scared to even consider the next couple of weeks.  Had a nightmare last night that I booted up DF2014 and it was exactly the same as 0.34 and the last two years was an ARG run by Toady.

My bet is sometime within the next fifteen or so days.

That is possibly the nerdiest nightmare ever.

when Toady releases new versions do save games move too, or will I have to start with new games, possibly new worlds too?

If not, I'm betting this will be my first 10-yr fort....*sigh*

Yep, you will have to make new worlds to play in. The work needed to somehow make old saves compatible just isn't worth it.

Well, it only really applies to moving between major versions (and really buggy versions with save corruption issues...but I think there was only one of these.).

One thing I wondered is will the same seeds (and stats) work? It doesn't look like he changed anything in the generation, other than trees and game mechanics.

Toady was talking about really struggling to maintain save-compatibility. That was at least a year ago. Pretty safe to say you're going to lose your stuff.

Meanwhile for people like me, who haven't opened a fort on the foolish idea that it's just around the corner, our long wait is at a end.

I'm pretty sure that the same seed in .34.11 will produce very different results in the coming version.  Any change to any random generation in world gen (which there is surely a lot of) will probably throw it off.

Generally the rule is: Games from previous small versions (so from DF2014.1 -> DF 2014.2/3/4/etc.) will be compatible, but games from large gapped versions won't be (i.e. DF2012 -> DF2014).

4th of July seems like a likely prospect since Toady likes to release on significant dates.
