"Aye, cap'n! Thar be a Galamite ship on the horizon! She look to be quite a ship, eight ballistae or so and rather speedy, but not as maneuverable as our own here."

Caerill looks toward the ship and ponders it.

"You know, this is a navy ship. They tend to respond to distress signals, right? Do we have any signal flags or anything, perhaps a flare torch?"

The captain muses for a moment.

"Galamite ships tend to respond to Galamite vessels.  We can fly their colours, but the navy won't respond to any old distress call.  The Duke's merchanters have special distress torches, they burn with a distinctive purple flame.  We don't have any of those."

"Then again," he says, glancing at Galan, "we do have a mage."

Varg ponders for a bit. He's good thinking I'm the moment of things, but before hand, not so much. He knows it's a larger enemy craft , but he knows there should be a way a smaller , and much more maneuverable craft could work. He then remembers the oil he has on hand and his previous tactic.

We hit them hard and fast like we agreed on before. If we can use some cloths and wrap them around the tips and soak them in oil, we can have a powerful weapon that, if use right, can stop them in their tracks. We take out their sails and they can't turn. We start  for their rear when we take out their sails, and then unleash Hel as we fire at them when they can't hit us from their behind. We keep going until their white flag goes up and then we take our rewards.

The crew wants bold, so I give you a bold tactic for the crew to use

"It's a bold move even being this close to a ship like this. However, if you want bold, we will be bold once we lure them in. Ollus did not win his victory at Golden Gate by impressing his mates, he did it by being smart."

Are you saying my plan isn't smart? They are rendered defense less to our attacks once their sails are rendered useless. We strike their blindside and we got them

"Oh, it's a great plan. It's a great plan for burning the whole ship to the ground. Notice how ships are made out of wood. What burns extremely easily? Ah. Yes, wood. Even if you ignore that fact, notice how it's raining. Once the oil stops burning nothing is going to catch because of the massive amount of water the sky is spewing. We need a plan that isn't rendered almost instantly useless by the weather."

Varg realises that despite his heavy armor, he didn't feel the rain and assumed it ot be a light mist and dismisses his idea for burning down their sails but keeping the idea open for hitting their blind spots when we lure them close enough.

He also thinks it would be a good idea to try and take out their ballistae from seeing their firepower.

The captain muses.  "The crew favours a bold stroke, we'll give them one.  Still, no harm in gaining a little distance with their guard down.  Galan, get that flare up.  Everyone else, get on a gun or help man the ship.  Once we fire, we'll need to go full speed from a dead stop if we don't want to get cut up by their guns.  As soon as we're in firing range, pick a target; guns or sails.  Wrap and oil your bolts in advance, I want four fire shots readied for each gun before they make distance.  If you're going for sails, use fire, if you're going for guns, stick to conventional bolts.  For the love of God, don't put a firebolt through their hull.  Sails only.  You have your orders, get to it!"
