Help with Yarn
« on: May 27, 2014, 04:31:28 pm »

I have a dwarf who is demanding some yarn cloth for his strange mood, but my workers won't make any yarn cloth because they say there are no unused threads. I have a deer-hair thread that is not being used. It was being kept in the hospital, but I removed the zone and the chests in an attempt to get them to use it. It still isn't working. What do I do?

Do you have orders set so that they will only use dyed thread?

Hair doesn't make yarn. Only wool, which comes from sheep, alpacas, or llamas, makes yarn. Wall off that workshop, that dwarf's not gonna make it.

Well, if you happen to have some animals and you just haven't been shearing them, then you might be able to build a farming workshop nice and quick to shear some wool, but if your industry is already up and running (and spent for the year) or you don't have any shearable beasties you should probably resign Urist McPickyMood to his fate of madness

I had the guy shear an alpaca that we had and he carried the alpaca wool to make the yarn, but came out with deer hair instead. I guess I will just have to try and shear some of the other alpacas.
