I say split the fighters.

2 fighters per bomber, rest of fighters and the combat drones engage the things that the enemy ship launches?

And I think we should primarily target their bridge.

And we should also get some scientists to get DNA samples from the dead guard before it decays too far.

We should have the all combatants sampled before noncombatants.

Eh. The DNA of the dead infantry will keep. It doesn't decay that quick.

Just very few people seem interested at the moment.

At least until one of my current games ends. I don't plan on any ending soon, but you never know.
Though if, say, 3 or 4 more people mention interest in this I'd probably at least finish the current update.
