Return. Start reading the material.

"Yes Milno, some. Whenever talking to someone high ranking or important, use name or title only. No using she, he or they. That's no-no. Never use own name when talking to someone higher ranking. Really big no-no. Equals use she, he, they, I, me, his or her when talking to or about each other."

Thomas takes his spare time to check the room once over for bugs again. Do so two or three times, then go watch the TV.
"Anything interesting? Anything helpful?"
Gonna assume you mean hidden monitoring device type bugs, not insect type bugs.

You don't find anything.

Head back to room, help with bug sweep. Hand off the radios and bags to Milno
Not much. Small town, not many landmarks. Which feels intentional, not a lot of places for outsiders to be interested in. If they're interested in the hotel, they're highly suspicious to our target. Otherwise, they probably leave town quickly, or have come for work of some kind.
You also don't find anything, but your search is much more complete and careful.

"Eh, some I guess? Whenever you're talking to someone important or high ranking, it seems that you use their name or title , instead of saying she, he or they. That seems to be a big no-no. Another big no-no is using your own name when talking to someone who is higher ranking than you. That's a really big one. People of equal standing refer to themselves and each other by using he, she, they, and I. I uh, this is going to make my brain hurt trying to speak like that."

Keep watching TV. See what professions are held in high regard here and what they like to do in their free time. Also, what profession is Thaddeus/everyone else on their papers?
Remember you've got several types of profession to choose from, though most of them are things like electricians and plumbers, technicians that can get access to normally sealed off places without proper clearance. About the highest up you've got is "Provincial Director's aid".

Positions of high regard seem to be mostly governmental and monetary; government officials, bankers, merchants, and the like. Tradesmen and technicians are, as far as you can tell, pretty darn low on the totem.

You read through but are having a hard time getting the info to stick very well. You get the basics of the local grammar and some geography, but thats about it.

Outside, in what must be the stairwell, you hear some heavy clomping as people descend and then, about 10 minutes later, more clomping as people ascend.

((Still sick with the flu, headaches are my biggest problem at the moment. Did we put any of the mini-cameras outside our rooms? If we haven't, that must be done.))

Milno puts a black mechanical index finger over his own lips in a "shhhh" gesture before moving closer to the door and waving the rest of the group to move closer and prepare for any emergencies.

Keep metal case clobse by in case of trouble, half-open even if the angle the door opens wouldn't allow anyone busting in to see its contents. Carefully approach the door and try to discern any further sounds.

Skylar pauses for a second, then types something into the datapad to show to Milno

Moving comm to other room. Leaving to pay when they pass.

Take the communicator and my own case into the other room, close the door quietly. Lay down in a bed and listen.

If the clomping passes without incident, take 50 space bucks down to the cashier and pay for our rooms.

Lars stayed silent, but his lips were moving in prayer.

Keep hand near semi-open case, in a position to draw the pistol if things go south.  Watch and wait otherwise.

Have case half-open, ready to pull out laser handgun, if things go bad. Concentrate on best ways to shoot someone with the pistol(CON bonus)

You've been here for like 2-3 hours. Why are you trying to pay for the rooms again?

You take the communicator, which is fused with the case, so that it's really more of a communications device disguised as a brief case, and walk into the other room. You lay down on the bed and listen.

"You hear that? You think we should get ready for something?"
Thomas takes his suitcase onto his lap and undoes the latches.
You lay the case across your legs and slowly, silently, pop the latches open.

Lars stayed silent, but his lips were moving in prayer.

Keep hand near semi-open case, in a position to draw the pistol if things go south.  Watch and wait otherwise.
You rest one hand on the grip of the pistol in the case and wait, watching the door.

Have case half-open, ready to pull out laser handgun, if things go bad. Concentrate on best ways to shoot someone with the pistol(CON bonus)
You leave the case open next to you, hand near it, considering the possible ways this could go down. Considering exactly how you would move your hand and where you would fire.

((Still sick with the flu, headaches are my biggest problem at the moment. Did we put any of the mini-cameras outside our rooms? If we haven't, that must be done.))

You stand up and walk to the door. You press your ear to the faux-wood and listen. You can hear the heavy footsteps moving further up the stairs and the distant creek of the stairwell door up above opening and then the clatter of it closing. Then nothing.
