Ah, Deathwing Company. That brings back great memories of the first SH PC game all those years ago. I approve. I can still vividly remember the intro to that game.

Haha okay, now I understand the rage about "in-game footage".  Wow.
Still, I'm definitely looking forward to this!  I really enjoyed E.Y.E and I like the W40K setting.  I'm glad it's a FPS, Space Marine was kinda fun but I'm not good with third person perspective.

Why did the genestealers do that generic stop, roar, jazz-hands thing?

Also, bolters are fully-automatic RPG launchers, while in the video there they seemed more like assault rifles. If you've ever played chaos gate, the cultists exploded into gore when you shot them with bolters. That's what should be happening.

Has there ever been a game post chaos gate that got that right?

Also the 3rd person perspective prevents you from achieving total immersion.

I really want a 40K FPS where the hud is an integral part of the experience. There is a ton of tech in space marine helmets for everything from squad and atmosphere monitoring to threat identification and acquisition. It'd be really cool to have all that in a FPS, and then if you like, get head shot, your helmet is ruined and you take it off and just have a normal 1st person hud.

Yeah, like the intro video for Dawn of War: Dark Crusade.  I don't remember many FPSes where the HUD is a fancy part of the helmet, though Republic Commando did a good job with it.  Close range kills spattered blood/oil/ichor over your viewport, which got cleaned off by a little energy beam  :D  And cracks formed at critical health, which was kinda weird but cool.

I could have sworn there was a really early WH40K FPS before Fire Warrior, where you started as a squad member then got promoted.  All I can find is the '93 Space Hulk, though, which I don't think is right.  Though that's an interesting little game.  FPS technically but you're controlling 5 soldiers at once.  I don't remember if they'll shoot autonomously at all, but it was too multi-tasky for me when I tried.

Is it the sequel? All I remember was it was on the PS1, reminiscent of tile-based dungeon crawlers where all turns were at 90.

Space Hulk: Vengeance of the Blood Angels

I think I remember bolters in Space Marines making stuff explode.

Space Hulk: Vengeance of the Blood Angels.

Start being given orders, by the end commanding other terminators.

Or a Khorne Berzerker hud with kill counts and visuals that steadily get sharper and more vivid as the combat drugs take over.

So I got the Space Hulk game yesterday (the 2d isometric TBT one) - realllly not a fan unfortunately. It's basically a puzzle game with too much chance involved. I tried to stick with it thinking their might be some RPG elements or something, but it's not my cup of tea really.

I'm hoping they do some RPG elements in Deathwing, the EYE ones were done pretty well, and I think it could be done well as long as it wasn't 'unlock las cannon' or 'regen +2%' style things.

Re: Space Hulk: Deathwing. Ascenscion Edition announced

http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2014/08/12/space-hulk-ascension-edition/

Sooooo....yeah. Not quite sure how to classify this. I suppose it's a new game since it's a standalone but I don't feel like it warrants a new thread. The developers say it's not intended to replace the original Space Hulk: Deathwing game they made. One is a faithful adaptation of the board game in video game format, the other is a video game based on the table top game, but more video-game like.

The "Ascension Edition" will feature a lot of new stuffs, turning classic Space Hulk into more of an RPG experience. You can rename all your squad members, they gain xp, learn new skills, can change loadouts and customize the look of your terminators. Ascension will feature the Ultrasmurfs (yawn) as the chapter of note. Rather than just full missions, you can play mini missions as well. The game will also feature combiweapons and genestealer variants to fight.

It will also include all DLC from the previous title for Blood Angels and Space Wolves, making for like 100 missions total.

Sounds pretty enticing. I didn't spend a whole lot of time playing Space Hulk, I bought it mainly just to have it. Don't know if I'll run out to buy this but I like the idea of leveling and customizing my terminators. And not having to play full missions also sounds pretty appealing.

The Ascension Edition is due to ship sometime between October and December of this year.

I wasn't a fan either.  Way to much chance involved.  Felt more like gambling than a strategy game.
