Don't pick an item just because it's easy to obtain or because it's useful, no noble cares about that. We are not here to be smart, we're nobles, right?
Personally, whenever I can, I make a LOT of green glass and use it for giant serrated discs; I just really like them, and I use those as much as I can in weapon traps when possible.

So, what's your favourite item in DF, the one that you just HAVE to craft if you can?
