Collete takes a moment to look over that funny-looking pillar, then gazes towards the village, then the sky, then back at the forest. Apparently deciding that she wants to stay here until morning - the last time she arrived at a town in the middle of the night, things went horribly, horribly wrong - she tugs on Subject's hand before turning around and searching for some firewood just inside the forest.

You were planning to have a 15 year old magical girl kill Witches by drinking them under the table!? It's original, at least.

Kyle shrugs.
"Might as well."
Kyle assists making camp.

'I've never been a fan of towns. Though I can't say I'm too comfortable camping this close to the wood.'

Orchea hesitates, looking up at the monument, then down at the ashes.

'But we're not the first, so we should be alright. I'll take first watch.'

Ignoring the others attempts to make camp, she approaches the pillar, running a hand over the carvings, before turning and leaning against it, facing into the forest. She rests her spear against the stone besides her, ready to grab at a moments notice.

The Windblown Plains - By The Spritewood

Collete and Kyle gather tinder and fallen branches while Subject arranges a circle of stones, and soon a merry fire is crackling as dusk falls. A vast array of stars comes out overhead - though none of you can see any familiar constellations of stars. You occasionally hear things rustle in either the nearby forest or the thick grass. Once something begins approaching through the grass, but branches shift in the fire and send up an angry spray of sparks, and the unseen creature flees into the night. The three not on watch makes beds of the soft grass and soon fall asleep, lulled by the soft crackling of the fire and the whispers of the wind on the grass.

Orchea sits watch. She's considering waking another to take the next watch when, with a shock, she realises there are four other figures around the fire. The new one is a thin humanoid, wrapped in cloth strips like bandages. Small trinkets adorn the body of the being, it's face in deep shadow from a wide-brimmed hat. It's sitting, cross-legged, dead still on the other side of the fire, seemingly watching her. Both of you are motionless - what are you going to do?

Orchea nods once at the..... thing in greeting.

'Are you the guardian of this place?'

Her hand gestures, the slightest of movements towards the pillar. Her voice is soft, attempting not to wake the others.

"The pillars are an accord long forgotten. Just a marker now of an age long past, no watcher of them am I."
The voice is soft and faintly music.
"The real mystery is you, carriers of fate. Are you carriers of cruelty or kindness? "
You get the feeling the figure smiles, but quite how you're not sure, with the face covered in cloth and shadow.
"In this land, the two are not always distinct."

'That does not come as a surprise.'

She pauses, searching for the shape of a mouth beneath the coverings.

'Perhaps we carry both.'

Another pause, as a troubled look sets over Orchea's face. It passes through her mind once again that their savior might not be all he seems. the moment ends as her curiosity overcomes her, and she speaks again, her voice adopting a more musical tone to match the being.

'But which do you bring, stranger?'

The unseen smile grows larger. Oddly, beneath the cloth, the face looks smooth and featureless.
"Then maybe we are of accord, in carrying both."
It leans back, looking into the swirls of stars and nebulae above, and you see two gleaming green eyes through gaps in the cloth wrapping, watching the darkened sky above.
"A lie can be truth. Truth can be a lie. Cruelty and kindness... You will not have an easy path, and no doubt need both."

A touch of a smile reaches Orchea's mouth.

'A second chance is never easy.'

She glances out across the plains, an image of burning tents flitting across her vision before fading. Her gaze returns to the stranger, wrapped in bandages.

'Perhaps you know that'

She breathes deeply, looking into the green eyes for reaction.

'You seem to know much. So perhaps I might ask a question of you?'

The figure nodded, no emotion showing in the deep green eyes.
"Ask, though I cannot promise an answer."

'Who gave us this chance?'

She waited with held breath.

((Likely to be online after the response so you may want to wake the others up.))

"That is a question, isn't it? One forever alive in the moment. But it might be eternity is ending."

It rises to its feet, freeing a trinket as it does so, and places it gently onto the ground.

"My time here grows short, if I am not to attract you undue attention. If you meet the one of stone, he remembers the old ages. Speak to him thus: Karthar sandulan, dokst nasarl. No doubt we'll meet again, Orchea, and your companions too."

It steps backwards, and suddenly, it's gone, disappeared into the warm night air, leaving only the trinket behind.

Orchea exhales gently, steeping forward to examine the trinket.

'Knew I wouldn't get a straight answer.'

She then proceeds to mutter repeatedly under her breath: 'Karthar sandulan, dokst nasarl,' memorising the phrase.

It seems to be a tiny purple stone carved into a inwards spiral, hanging on a thin piece of cord. Amethyst, maybe? It tingles faintly when you pick it up, but nothing else happens.
