the daemon Animus Culpa... and they seal in me. The daemon is long since free, but the archstones prevent me
contacting my priests. They have no idea only I'm still trapped here alone.

Shatter the Archstones if you must. Get me free.

Probably four player RPG. It isn't first-come-first-serve, so post a sheet even if others have before you. I'll pick and choose the best, waitlist the others for when or if a character dies.

Appearance: Make it humanoid -  2 arms, 2 legs. You can have a racial power (e.g. incredible sense of smell, claws, etc), but I'll make sure it's not too OP. If there are none, we can discuss some other bonus to balance it out.
Backstory: An overview of you.
Failure: The task of great import you were trying to do before you were killed.

Stats: You have five points to distribute. No more than 3 in any one stat to start with. I know how you people love to min-max. They start at 0.

Offence: Slice'n'dice.
Defence: Don't get minced.
Finesse: Rogueish talents such as slieght of hand
Support: Useful skills such as repairing things and repairing people.
Magic: Zap.

Name: Leonas
Appearance: A potent demon in a permanent human form who bargains with people for their souls in exchange for something--usually servitude. He has blood red eyes and short black hair, and is often seen dressed in a black suit. As a demon, he has enhanced dexterity and strength.
Backstory: Leonas from the very inferno of Hell itself and spent many years in there until he is summoned by a young girl named Akira. Akira bargains her soul with Leonas to assist her in her quest for vengeance for her parents whom were murdered. Leonas spent several years with the girl, bonding with her in a way that was more friendship than business. One strange night, Akira called upon Leonas and he came--but he came too late, and a man had a powerful pistol aimed at Akira--an anti-demon pistol. Leonas lunged forward as the man shot, and Leonas took the bullet directly into the chest and died. The bullet shot through Leonas and killed Akira.
Failure: The servitude of his master, but failed through his very death.

Name:  Kyle Johnson
Appearance: This human has scaled arms and legs ending in claws that are suited for fighting or climbing objects. He's a prime example of a lizardman/human crossbreed. He is fairly lithe but has some muscle on him. He stands at six and a half feet tall despite his previous profession. He has brown hair and eyes. His teeth are slightly pointed making it apparent he is a carnivore for the most part.
Backstory:  Kyle was a thief before his death. He worked for a rather large guild in a city. He was valued for his skill at climbing and fighting. He was also a ladies man being quite attractive to many women.
Failure: Was executed after an attempted robbery of a royal vault.

Appearance: A normal looking brown haired woman with slitted blue eyes. Stands at 5'7". Slim. She has heat and infrared vision.
Backstory: A vat grown clone, Subject was simply a test tube for the group that made her. Thankfully, more of the tests didn't affect her too badly, but that was small comfort when you can see the less fortunate across from your cell.
Failure: Watching the slabs of meat, knowing that you are one bad substance away from matching them, make a woman desperate. Stealing an rib from next door(it was exposed), Subject jimmed the lock and almost escaped. Bullet clipped her just before a rooftop jump.

Appearance: An albino wearing a white suit and white shoes.
Backstory: The youngest member of the Abrams family, James was ignored by most if the family, excluding his 2 brothers. He hates his father.
Failure: Helping his brother escape the wrath of his father. Killed in a one-on-one duel with his father, but his brother was captured anyway.

Hmm. The point of the failure is that he wouldn't have brought enough time for his brother to escape: that's why it's the failure, after all, and not a pyrrhic victory.

I mentioned probably didn't I? Chances are, he was caught by guards or something. The probably allows for open interpretation for the GM, meaning that you decide what happened to him, in the end.

Name: "Artas Ardens"
Appearance: Entirely human; however hir is a non-human partial shapeshifter. Ze can change little details of hir body, specifically skin tone, eye color, and hair color. Ze can adapt to hir surroundings slightly, able to camouflage hirself like a chameleon. Despite appearing male, hir has no coordinated gender.

Backstory: It is not known who or what "Artas Ardens" is supposed to be, as the only records of hir existence were carried by the mad wizards who created hir, and they were taken care of by hirself when ze realized hir safety was being threatened. Piecing together the remaining memories in the corpse ze inhabits, "Artas Ardens" undertook the mission of great importance to the body to discover who they were, and how they were related to hir.

Failure: Following the trail of the one ze recognizes is hir creator, or perhaps summoner, ze is discovered to be a non-human monster, and is promptly witch-hunted by people who feared non-humans and magical beings, or magic in general.

Name: Collete Drider
Appearance: Fairly normal human. 5'4", fiery red hair that stops a foot above the ground, bluish-gray eyes, thin almost to the point of looking emaciated. Oh, and she has no tongue.
Backstory: They were royalty, once. Driven from their home by men from the north, men that left nothing of their home behind but nearly forgotten memories... And a cloak. That's what her father would tell her during her childhood, along with tales of a prophecy that, should the cloak ever regain it's full power, the one who wore it would be able to speak to those that fell centuries prior, to be able to learn what they had been guarding and call upon their power! She had seen the cloak, and yes, there was something magical in it... The light always seemed to dim around it, and it would flow in breezes that weren't there... But, the cloak was stolen from them when she was ten, and her family was little better than beggars now, never having enough to eat.
Failure: After her father died, Collete set out to find what was stolen from them. After many years, she followed rumors of the cloak to a cave hundreds of miles from her home... But, the man who stole it was expecting her. Mere minutes after she entered the cave, the entrance was collapsed, leaving her to die of dehydration.

Maybe you've missed the point a little. The point is the character himself knows he's failed: that when it came to do or die, they died.

Appearance: Female human. Red hair, 5'6'', slender and graceful. Has red eyes, due to a strange ritual that allowed her to channel spells through her blades. (ie. spells originate from blade tip in most cases, or a fire spell might let her coat her blades in flames.

Backstory: Orchea was the defender of her tribe, nomads on the plains. From birth she was trained in the use of both magic and blades, mastering both, and at the age of 14 she underwent a ritual that allowed the two to become one. Renowned among the tribe for her grace, she slid through combat unarmoured, relying on her speed and agility to lead her through unharmed. However, she was not the match of her mother, who was the guardian before her, and word of this also spread.

Failure: When her mother perished, Orchea was left as the sole guardian. the news traveled fast, and seizing this weakness, a rival tribe struck. Orchea met them in battle, and though she cut down many of their men, she eventually came face to face with one who proved her equal. Seeing him dressed in full chain mail, she sneered, and swung only to be met with a lightning parry. They fought for brief moments before Orchea realised she could not win and fixed the image of the tribe in her head, before the mans blade met her neck. Her own overconfidence had led to the deaths of those who relied on her.

Apart from Kyle(and Collete Drider, who hard to label as one or the other), every 'selfish' character has supports points and every 'helper or defender' character has zero.
