Update: I assembled a party to venture into the Forgotten Lands, in search of the wizard Paternicus and his High Tower. It only took a day, but it felt like years. I lost many good men on that voyage, but I finally reached the wizened mage, and he agreed to cure my plight in exchange for hard labor in his mines. With a wave of his staff, my laptop came back to life. It was all worth it. I hope that this two-and-a-half-week trial has taught us all an important lesson about valuing what we have and never trusting major corporations.
