Moldova forgot you can't force memes. Netherlands actually made someone here fall asleep. Hungary pretty Magyar, 10/10. Italy's song was catchy, had a gorilla (why?). Yet to see something really noteworthy

According to our commentators, it's because of the song being about how we in the west are getting stupider and soon apes will be smarter than us.

I voted for the yodeling group. I can't remember what country it was.

The hosts have made me cringe so hard today, holy shit. What were the organizers thinking?

Also, the only redeeming quality of all top songs this year is "Compared to the rest, we're actually good!". On their own, all the songs are absolutely awful.

Belarus, Italy, Hungary had its niche, France, UK and Germany were good if not terribly catchy, Croatia 2 4 1d it and... Yeah. Ukraine's symphony was sick

Also symbolic horse head

OK, I think Portugal will win this. The prevailing voting trend is already clear.

Portugal?

Why? Why, why, why? What is wrong with people?

This is the first ESC result that I have felt genuinely upset over. I jolly well am. How?! Why that oh-so-safe, meandering sleeping pill of a song? When compared to all the options, what sort of person would choose that one? I cannot believe it.

Well, due congratulations to Portugal, of course. It is a fair victory. But Lord my Creator, let it not be the start of a trend...

It was inevitable.

EDIT: Actual content.

Beyond my general saltness regarding the Portugese victory (the only song in the competition that I did not think ought to win), I must say that it was a quite pleasant contest this year. Quite a good harvest of songs, and some lovely stage-work. A jolly good old show, quite simply.

I believe my personal favourite remains Azjerbaijan's Skeletons. I adore the sound of it, and I liked the surreal atmosphere it built. Second is Belgium. That performance really did grow on me. She has a rather unusual voice, one that I quite like, and it was a pretty damned good song that it went to work on, as well. Lovely. I do hope that this result gives her a good career push.

Eh Portugal was acceptable, the obligatory safe winner. I'm cool with them winning simply because Portugal's not won in ages, or well ever, thus it's pretty cool that they get the trophy now. Gotta agree that Belgium's one was lovely, however it's not something older gens of Europe would find particularly interesting. I just want to know what the horse head man standing atop the ladder in the emo toilet stall meant in Azerbaijan

As always Eurovision gives us an insight in the world of ass-kissing and corruption.

I particularly liked how Ukraine just flat out refused entry to the Russian entry.

Another jewel was the Spanish entry that won their national selection by coming in 3rd in the popular vote, but was chosen by the "professional" jury anyway because they had  a (documented) personal interest in the entry they choose.

And who can forget Greece and Cyprus giving each other 12 points again? They have only done so in 18 out of 19 times since the introduction of televoting.
