Another
20 minute video later, and I finally found some substance. Blocks that make you run faster, wards, levitation, smelters, an autominer, magic mirrors...there do seem to be some actually useful things.
automation of stuff
what flavor you like
Yeah. A lot of what I'm seeing looks like the design philosophy was "Redstone is too difficult, so let's make a Harry Potter mod." Chest that auto-grabs things dropped on it? Ok, that's great...but it's basically a chest with a hopper. Levitation block? Ok, very convenient...but there are a bunch of types of redstone elevators and there are ender pearls if you want a vertical shaft without the space requirements of an elevator. Complicated system of iron detection and mining and specialty picks that give extra iron and furnaces that smelt extra ingots? ...ok, but...iron farm?
As you say, flavor...but as somebody who's comfortable with redstone, I'm skeptical of "make things to make things to make things to make things" that do exactly the same thing...but it's magic! It's like 40 minutes of tutorials on how to collect dshhfl that can be used to make asdhsdjka that collect fhjhjfhjffsk that build hfdhjshskdhfsdfsddsffs that....ugh. The five minute tutorial of gathering and transmuting various magic-themed stuff with a final payoff of..."makes a light source" just really killed it for me.
I don't know. Maybe I'll give it a try. Haven't seen anyone on the vanilla server in a week.
