In other news, I continued work on a modded 1.7.2 server last night. It will be the 3rd iteration of my previous 'magecraft' servers with all magic themed mods.
Ah, this is quite relevant to my interests. Keep us posted, and, if there's any way we can help, let us know.
Noted. I'm building it in 1.7.2 for now with an eye to update to 1.7.10 when the mods mature.

Speaking of... would anyone object to my upgrading the vanilla server to 1.7.10 now? It seems like a fair few bugs have been fixed.

Hmm, I kinda want to do a temporary Bending server with you guys, but I don't know who'd be interested.

Manipulating the elements. You pick one at the start and stick with it, but if you don't like it, ops can switch you. Makes combat a lot more interesting, but they have many utilitarian uses too.

Assuming that people know you mean Avatar: The Last Airbender isn't helpful.  It's probably a glitch in the matrix that I knew what you meant at all, as I've not seen the show nor the film by M. Night Shyamalan.

forsaken, can you post a list of the actual mods to be used on this 1.7.2 magecrafty thing you're planning?  Thanks!  :)

I've not been on a lot, but the 1.7.10 client seems to be behaving well for me...  I'm in favour of updating the server.

Sorry. Basically, the mod is your choice of pyrokinesis, hydrokinesis, geokinesis, or aerokinesis, in block form. Not as griefy or messy as it sounds, but pretty fun.

No objections. Though please create a map backup just in case.



In other news, I've done some landscaping of the road from (0,0) to (1000,-1000). If anyone's looking for a place to settle, there's some good real estate available.







Fun trivia: the road contains over 6000 half-slabs.

So far testing is going well so I'll probably put up an opt-in beta tomorrow. If that seems stable enough I'll whitelist everyone from the vanilla sever on the magecraft server as well

Do we really have the playerbase to be able to divide ourselves over two servers? We had a small surge of people playing this past weekend, but nobody benefits from setting op another server that only pulls players away from this one, just to end up with twos servers abandoned because they don't have enough people.

I've seen this argument before and there is no good answer. I'm sure some people have gotten tired of vanilla and would like a modded server, others may just want a change for a while. People will play on the server they prefer.

If you like I could just add the mods to the current vanilla server. You'd have to generate new chunks to get some mod materials in that case, I suppose.

Tinker's construct is not supported by the mod author for 1.7.2 so it will not be in. If we move up to 1.7.10 later on I'll add it.

Yeah, I feel like all it would do is punish people who only want to play on a specific server but don't have complete control over their personal schedules.

It would allow people to access both servers, but it wouldn't split the playerbase since people would only be able to play on one server at any given time.

Hmm. That's the problem.

How about "preferred" servers, instead of actually taking them down? That way, people could still play on whichever server, but large groups of people would be more likely.
