Was planning to do a sugarcane farm next, but my villager breeder isn't working correctly for some reason. Possibly some rule changes since last I built one. Maybe a vertical pumpkin/melon farm instead. I still need to light up my road. Also finally found a swamp biome and got a basic low-output slime farm going for sticky pistons. Would still like the /seed so I can build one closer to home though.

Is anyone still playing? I've spent probably over 10 hours online over the past few days without anyone else on, and sandpuncher and metalax are the only people I've seen on for more than 30 seconds in a while. ~8pm on a weekend right now, checking...nobody online.

Where is everybody?

I'd be there, but I just started playing CivCraft and it's taken some time to get my stuff set up. I should be on sometime this week.

I've been taking a break from punching sand, dealing with boring adult stuff.  A bunch of little things piled up over spring semester, and I want to reverse the trend over the summer.  If I get to the point where I'm sure that I'm done with Minecraft for now, I'll log in one last time and redistribute what wealth I have squirreled away.

Yeah, we've lost a few people to Civcraft.  I think a few more were just tourists, really.

I've filled two double chests with sand since the last 20-some stacks I donated. Do you want more?

Though I don't entirely understand the motivation to build long windy cobble/glass corridors everywhere. The stairs to the gold farm, for example, would probably be better served by a simple drop shaft with a ladder. The bottom of the gold farm isn't far from the top of the stairs leading to it.

Unfortunately, yes. In my wanderings I've found a few random 30 minute-to-build houses belonging to people I've never seen on. Hopefully we can get some more people. When I first joined there were 2-5 people on at all hours of the day.

What's needed to get the gold farm running? I don't understand the design. Not sure what the purpose of the 20-some levels of half slabs are, and I routinely see perfectly healthy pigmen in the killzone. Also seems like a minecart pickup would be much cheaper than making another 80-some hoppers. I've started half-slabbing the surrounding area to try to improve spawn rates, but it's very low and iif I stand at the collection area nothing spawns at all. Kind of looks like the height was set wrong, but I'm hesitant to do more scouting around up top because I've already died once from the ghasts that open fire as soon as I step inside.

What needs to be done?

It does work. The rings of half slabs enforce the pigmen to drop onto the hoppers, otherwise they would frequently manage to move too far sideways and miss causing the drops not to be collected. Might check the drop height of the first pad, it is 23 blocks to kill a pigman and it should have been built 24 blocks above the hoppers. I'm fairly sure it was built at the right height, but may be worth checking again. Healthy pigmen in the kill area are likely to have spawned on the areas not yet covered by the hoppers.

Spawn rate is low at the moment due to surrounding areas at the base and also up at the top, that need to be removed as spawnable areas. Lack of apparent spawns is likely due to pigmen having already spawned in those areas. There are also only two levels of spawn pads built so far, that will want to get up to 7-8 levels of pads to improve the spawn rate.

I'll likely be on to do some more work on it sometime today.

edit: jumped on quickly to add some more hoppers, and definitely getting spawns on the pad while idling, and the drop is high enough to kill pigmen on impact.

Idle point is at -2, 33, -112 so we need to at a minimum get rid of any unwanted spawnable locations within 32 blocks of that point. Ideal for maximum spawn rate would be anything within 128 blocks, but that is likely impractical.

I fixed one of the blaze farms. Now, if you press the button, it moves all the blazes out of the last floor. It speeds up killing blazes by quite a bit.

Todays project was a fully automated sugarcane farm:



15 pistons triggered by a hopper clock. Every minute or so the pistons pulse, knocking sugarcane into the water where they're directed via hopper into a chest. Current output is 36 sugarcane per hour. Which isn't very much. Will probably tear the whole thing out and rebuild it from scratch about 15 y-levels deeper and add a bunch more layers. Going to burn through double chests full of the stuff with villager trades.

Materials used:
 * 2 sticky pistons
 * 15 regular pistons
 * 2 comparators
 * 1 repeater
 * 1 redstone block
 * 1 redstone torch
 * 47 redstone dust
 * 3 hoppers
 * 1 chest

(EDIT: It turns out that due to changes to villager mechanics since last I built one of these, the infinite villager spawner does not actually infinitely spawn villagers. There needs to be a 9 block vertical distance and I only built a six block difference. So, anybody who wants to build one, don't follow precisely the method described here. It will work for a short time and then your villagers will stop spawning.)



Today we showcase a villager trading system.

Here is the infinite villager breeder, in manual breeding mode. The two sand blocks prevent baby villagers from escaping the breeder, allowing the core group of villagers to grow for overall faster breeding. When finished, the sand will be removed, allowing baby villagers (who are short) to escape the breeder out to the sides, where they will get stuck on the different height of soul sand, unable to get back in. They remain on the left and right sides of the breeding area until they grow up, at which point they become tall enough that their heads touch the water and they swim up until the water stream picks them up and carries them out to the drop shaft on the right.



Next, we have the required doors, 6 blocks below the breeding area and one villager locked into place by half slabs. This registers the six doors as a valid village but the breeders are far enough away that they don't get counted by the villager counter. The result is that regardless of how many villagers exist, the village thinks it has only one villager, and allows more to be bred.



Next we have the holding cells to which newly grown up villagers are delivered by the water stream.



And here is a front view of those chambers. The villager is standing on a jack o lantern with a pressure plate on it. When the water carries a villager onto the pressure plate, it triggers a piston behind him that both traps him in that one block area while simultaneously cutting off the water stream, allowing villagers to be delivered to other holding cells. In theory, he should have gone to the cell on the left, but it's an imperfect system. Villagers try to move around while they're being carried by water, and sometimes they manage to skip cells.



Sadly, the first villager we bred was a priest with a useless glowstone trade. So, we pull the lever, crushing him and clearing up the cell for the next villager. 20 minute test run complete, time to breed more villagers.



Materials used:
 * One piston, one sticky piston, one pressure plate and one lever per chamber. 10 Chambers built and ready, room for ~30 total.
 * A whole lot of brick
 * A whole bunch of jack o lanterns
 * Some half slabs
 * Six doors
 * Roughly a stack of glass
 * ~100 rails and a minecart to bring in villagers
 * A couple efficiency IV diamond pickaxes to mine out the 9x58x8 area I put it in. First time I've ever built one of these underground. It's much easier to put them on the surface.
