I just finished my continental underground railway project. Anyone who wants to connect their house to it just make sure they have their owns shaft down to it (ropes are nice if you want to be able to go up without spamming hooks and wings).

You know what the game needs?
Minecarts with spikes. To instantly kill enemies who happen to stalk on railways. Maybe with some sort of unique debuff or a super strong knockback with extreme damage.
At least weaker enemies. With 'weaker enemies' I mean not bosses or minibosses, so it's not exploited for boss farming.
Maybe someone should suggest it or something to the Terraria devs?

Minecarts already damage monsters in their path, and the weaker enemies get splattered. But yeah anything hardmode will likely damage you and only get a slap on the wrist.

Yeah, it's the hardmode enemies I am talking about.

Read the OP.

Forsaken
 * What's the world seed?
 * Would you change the thread title to include the word 'minecraft?' We might get more appiicants.
 * What's the deal with the un-openable chest at spawn?
* Not sure what the world seed is. It was random.
 * I.. could change the thread title, sure.
 * I probably placed it by mistake while clearing out the trees.

A good idea would be to make all kinds of special minecarts as items, and you click with them on the track (they don't get used or placed or anything) and you appear on board that kind of minecart, and you get the regular minecart if you click with the empty pointer or whatever non-cart item.

I recently experienced a cowsplosion.

They got into my redstone corridors and everything. 18 levels worth of kills by the time I was done cleaning up.

So, with the cows out of the way I had room to move my fields underground.

View from the top of the pyramid:

Inside view. The farm is 9 tiles wide. One lighting and irrigation channel covered by half slabs with four dirt on each side. The half slabs are primarily to keep the irrigation channels from breaking the water flow when the farm is in operation, but they also allow me to move around in there without breaking the soil.

The redstone. 22 repeaters, 16 dispensers, 76 redstone dust, two levers and hopper and a chest. A fair amount of material, and making the dispensers required ~60 levels of skeleton farm grinding to get enough bows, but as you can see from the screenshot the actual construction is very simple. Basically just this mirrored on both side of the farm and then two lines running to the levers.

And here's where it all meets.

When we pull the levers, this is the result:

The water harvests all the plants and seeds and gathers them through the hopper into the chest. Here's the result of a single harvest:

Time to replant. The farm works with any combination of wheat, carrots and potatoes, and it takes just under 8 stacks of seeds to replant the entire field.

Now only if replanting could be automated.

If you're farming pumpkins, cacti, or reeds it can. But those are things that require other ingredients to be useful (except cacti, if you're building a defense).

Come 1.8, or the most recent snapshot, it is supposed to become possible via usage of NPC villagers. I suspect manual replanting will remain faster and more effective though.
