As the title says, my game is crashing unpredictably. My current save game is just past two years in, in mid spring, and would be my best fortress to date, except that it crashes within 5 minutes of unpausing from my current save. No explanation, just "dwarf fortress has stopped working", and it closes. The timing is somewhat random. Sometimes it's within seconds of unpausing, sometimes it runs for two or three minutes.

Hm. I'll try that, assuming I can figure out how to do it.
Right now I've gone back to the previous winter (Thank you, seasonal autosaves!) to see if it keeps happening at the same point in time.

Edit: I've only been able to find one dfhack file, diggingInvaders.plug.dll, and the crash is still happening at the same time. I don't know what to do now. I don't want to lose this fort, but it may not be savageable.

Perhaps upload your save so we can take a look? Let us know settings you are using too. Does the crash coincide with a season change? Also you may want to look into how much system resources the games demanding.

find the DFHack init file, and delete every entry for digging invaders in there as well.

Otherwise, use quick saves, and save every few seconds. Eventually you will get past the crash.

Still crashing within a minute or two of unpausing from this save game, usually in five seconds or so. Sometimes it goes for maybe 3-4 minutes. Here are links to a copy of my current saved game, and my dfhack.init file, which I think I edited correctly, but I wouldn't be surprised to find I'd done it wrong.

I...what? Edit: Nevermind, I actually just stumbled upon your forum thread by accident, Casei.

Crashes are still happening, and I can't get past the point they're occurring at. I'm either going to make my first foray into adventure mode, or I'll abandon and reclaim the fort, in the hopes it works better now that I'm STARTING a game with diggingInvaders turned off.

I've checked out your init file and run a diff on it with mine. The only difference is in mine, I have the rendermax line commented out. You could try commenting it out and see if that improves the crash situation.

I hope it helps, because more talented individuals than myself will have to step up if it doesn't.

Edit: Try rolling back two seasons after you make the DFHack change to get rid of whatever is trying to crash the game. There might be a digging creature actively trying to dig - mine was a Frost Giant Thief stuck in the moat. When I deleted the DFHack stuff, though, he vanished.

DF randomly crashes on my laptop because it runs out of RAM.
