It's 13:30 where I am now, just got home from lunch and refreshing to see if I got a key... though I'm not liking my chances if 143,000 people entered =o

They've tweaked/turned off a lot of graphical features for low settings.

Watching the first look video on PC Gamer Show that's linked in the OP.

First impression: damn noice grafficks. I'll need a better graphics card. First person running animation looks silly though.

Anyone know what the engine is? I'd hope if it's on a more recent engine then the game would play better. Ok, they said it's Unreal 3 with Unreal 4 stuff added in. Whenever I played KF1, which used Unreal 2, there seemed to be...eccentricities. Like shooting a shotgun seemed to not shoot the proper spray. Or not shoot at all. Or shooting a pistol, or lever action rifle, or whatever. Maybe the issue was due to my computer or my internet connection. Controls generally felt clunky at times though. Hopefully KF2 will feel a lot smoother.

When this comes out could I expect to be able to play with you guys? Only other thing that kept me from getting into KF1 was that I could never find good servers that are always populated, or find a group, and as a result finding multiplayer games to play with proved a hassle.

Something I spotted buried in that, MaxRespawnDosh. Does that do what it sounds like and mean you can no longer keep a cushion of dosh to rebuy your full gear if you die in a late wave?

From the sounds of it a majority of the PCGamer keys were taken by spambots and are being sold for things like TF2 items...

Somehow not surprised.

Well, if they hand out any more keys I'll see what I can do.

I'd try to do it at 4k but I think that'd drop my frames to the point it'd affect gameplay. I'm already getting little hitches happening at really inconvenient times, so.

As I said, you have to have a monster rig to handle that.

But it is fun watching bodies literally form a wall in doorways.

The minimum and recommended system specs for running the game have been posted up on the KF2 steam community page here, along with a link to a system checker if you are not sure what your actual system specs are.

One thing to note, it requires a 64bit OS so if you've been a bit lazy like me and not swapped from the 32bit version of win7 you will need to do so.

Game still needs some optimization work I think. Seems to have a memory leak somewhere that shows up after several hours of playing, and I'm getting some herky-jerkiness despite blowing recommend specs for "High" out of the water. It probably has something to do with turning up MaxDeadBodies, but I dunno. Seems weird that I have hitching issue.

That aside, the beta has been a blast. Some people lament the loss of KF1's two-entry corridors, and camping in a line of guns for 7 to 8 waves. But as Medic, I'm really appreciating the chaos and bedlam the new game has brought to your typical camp & spank-fest. I spend as much time running through packs of spawned ZEDs to line up heals on my teammates as I do actual killing. While the game looks and feels like KF still, it's picked up a few additional tweaks, like sprinting, and melee bash to break yourself out of corners where you've been pinned by ZEDs, that the whole game feels like a step up in terms of fluidity and professional shine.

There are things here and there than KF1 vets might not like as much in the sequel: maybe you miss the sexual innuendo trader. Maybe you preferred the old "drunk guy at a pub" voice overs for characters. Maybe you thought the old Scrake was more threatening looking than this one. Generally though, I'd challenge any fan of KF1 to not enjoy this game. When you start playing beyond normal and the waves get longer, the enemies get tougher....it becomes a frantic fight for survival every wave, and I love it.

I've seen gameplay of Killing Floor 1 on harder difficulties with multiplayer where teams roamed the map as a group, stayed mobile, and killed things as they found it. It wasn't always camp in a corridor.

Don't tell me they changed the cheesy brit accents. D:
