I'm not buying this game for the gore, but neat video. Still not as brutal as Overgrowth IMO, but that's probably because this one is so 'over the top'.
I did notice a couple times where a vertical swing to the head severed the head, when in reality it would probably split the head open down the middle (Well, a reality where bones/skulls are paper thin at least).

He did talk about draw slashes which look like they'll be useful in a tight situation. As a fan of melee weapons in games I hope the katana isn't the only sword type weapon in the game. I suppose it makes sense to use against unarmored enemies since it's essentially a large two-handed saber...

Watching the video more... it's still hard to believe that this game was made by the same studio that made Red Orchestra. The difference between the two games is astronomical, one is a gritty realistic war game while the other is cartoony with silly physics and sci-fi guns (I assume, considering the first one had them). Not that I'm complaining, just amazed. I'm waiting for them to announce that as you make the maps more bloody people and enemies start to slip and fall.

Probably (still) a relic of the old dismemberment system, where just about any shot to the head with a melee weapon would result in a horizontal decap.

I think the official list ended up being Knife, Machete, Fire Axe, Chain Saw, Katana, Claymore, Scythe and Dwarfish Axe. I think those are all Tripwire made. Either way, the fact they're going to have edged and blunt weapon categories tells me there's going to be more than 1 weapon per group. Although it took them a while to go beyond the Knife, Fire Axe, Chainsaw and Katana, I think they'll have a better offering this time at release.

Right? It's nice they have range, or at least understand fun in multiple ways. They're still stodgier and more focused on gritty realism than, say, Valve or whoever is making Call of Duty now. But for them KF was always a "fun project", versus RO2 which was srs bsnss.

I fired a suggestion off in the news thread on their forum, we'll see if they respond.

"Using the Bullpup as an example, we animated at 242 frames per second, which gives us 22 frames per shell that ejects out of the weapons," Munk tells me. "The weapon shoots at 660 rounds per minute, which equals 11 rounds per second. In slow-mo you can actually see every kickback. In realtime you can't see these details but it makes the guns feel more powerful. We've come up with a formula to calculate: we have a weapon, this is its rate of fire—how many frames to do want to have per actual kickback, to make sure the fidelity of it is absolutely perfect? To my knowledge, no game is doing something like that, or would even think it would be worth doing something like that."
This game is going to be so awesome.

Huh, I somehow missed adding the dev diary videos to the first post before. Still they are all linked there now.

One thing I noticed is that they are developing for both PC and SteamOS, the first interesting game I've noticed specifying that they are developing for it.

Rise, Zombie thread, for Zeds are coming.

Today, PC Gamer got a hands on look at the game which is nearing it's release onto Steam early access.
PC Gamer Show: Killing Floor 2 hands-on

The game is going to release with initially just four perks available. Berserker, Commando, Medic and Support, although there are, from previous information released, plans for up to another six perks to be added. So an obvious initial lack of explosions, fire and sniping as compared to KF. Another little change that could prove significant is that medic heal darts will now consume a bullet each time one is fired, resulting in medics who will have to be much more careful in conserving ammo when fighting and less likely to send darts at distant team-mates.

A couple of dev diary videos have appeared since the last time this thread was alive, covering a major part of the game, the weapons and perk systems.

Developer Diaries 3 - Weapons & Perks (Part 2)

Also something that has snuck in, KF2 will be making an appearance for all you console type people on the PS4, as well as the normal PC and SteamOS releases.

Finally last month, in conjunction with film production company, Type AB, Tripwire released Killing Floor: Uncovered, a live action short film set in the Killing Floor universe at the beginning of the original outbreak.

Never really got into KF, but from the little I've played of it, it seemed really fun. KF2 should be a good opportunity to get into it, I think.

So PTW.

The game is really starting to look triple AAA quality, compared to KF1. Some of those snow levels I could have easily mistaken for [INSERT NEWEST BIG BUDGET SHOOTER.] TWI and PC Gamer really tried to play up RO2 as TWI's first AAA game, and maybe it was in terms of money spent. But KF looks like the first real one. Especially the animations and character work.

Really looking forward to this. I'm increasingly shying away from buying games in EA these days because I think it's hurting my enjoyment of them. But I'll gladly dive in for KF2. 3 maps and apparently all the weapons sounds like plenty to start with.

As an aside, I wonder how noticeable those animations recorded at 200 FPS will look when you're lagging.

Yes, unlike most early access games, it seems it will be going in almost feature complete. While there will be some additions like the other perks it's mainly going to be polishing the game rather than building it like so many others have been.

It's almost certain that they will, as you see one near the end of the PS4 announcement trailer.

The last videos from the PC Gamer show, featuring an attempt at hell on earth mode in the Paris map and another video giving a single perspective on the biotics lab, have now been released here.
