Transistor - The makers of Bastion go sci-fi
« on: May 07, 2014, 06:20:31 pm »

Seeing as how the pre-order is now up on Steam, (it's coming out on the 20th of this month) I feel like this game deserves a page.
Spoiler: Pictures (click to show/hide)

Transistor is Supergiant Games' follow-up to Bastion. Not a sequel of any sort (as far as I've seen) but a separate story about a woman named Red who wields a weapon called the Transistor - the awesome-looking sword in the pictures, as you have probably already gathered.

The game features a strategic combat system that revolves around the ability to stop time and execute a series of actions instantaneously once a recharging bar fills up. The art looks very similar to Bastion, which is a plus in my book, there will be cool voiceovers throughout just as there were in Bastion, and the song in the trailer of the steam page really makes me want to buy it already.

It looks really pretty, and they did a fantastic job with Bastion, so I have real high hopes for this one. What do you guys think?

There was some press on this that came out of PAX last year. Here's TotalBiscuit playing an early version.

Woah I saw this agesss ago (a year/two!?)!

It looks pretty cool, but I somehow wasn't instantly grabbed. I love bastion and I'll definitely give it a go, but somehow it didn't hook me in quite the same way - please share details anyone who knows or has had a go!

With enough work and polish, it could have been a forgettable flash game on Kongregate.

Huh.  At first glance it reminded me of Hyper Light Drifter.

If this is just half as good as Bastion it'll still be great. I think X or some other LPer did an early-acces review of this and said it was good.

I am very interested in discovering how the game's sales are.

Mostly because the industry says this game must fail... but I think that is bollox.

I just spoke with the industry and they're not really sure what you're talking about.

Can definitely see the same art style in this as in Bastion.

Ah yes. Was eagerly waiting for this since last year, if only because I can finally listen to the full version of the main theme released last year (the one that goes "When you speak, I hear silence~").

I am very interested in discovering how the game's sales are.

...why? It's not like it's a sequel. It just has the same artists and music creators and prpgrammers and game engine, mainly because small game companies pretty much have to use the same talent and game engine due to budget constraints.

Ohh trust me Skyrunner the reason is dumb as heck. I'll tell you the second this game succeeds.

I will say one image is a bit odd given that she runs this guy through... but her sword doesn't penetrate him. I swear it is longer then that image suggests.
