I'm rebooting this game, although the actions taken in the previous thread are cannon. I'll be accepting 2 new players, just because. Here are the current rules;
Leveling
Levels are gained through the traditional 'gain enough exp' method that is used in most games. Upon levelling up, you gain 4 Stat points, to spend in ordinary Stats such as STR, SPD and Skill. You also gain 2 skill points, which you can use to either increase your current skill level, or your potential skill level in a certain subskill. Subskills are written out in this format: skill level/potential skill level. You cannot exceed your potential skill level with your current one, meaning that if you have a potential skill level of 24, your current skill level cannot exceed 24. You can also gain another skill via skill point, with invasion of course. This means that a thief cannot suddenly develop firebreathing, or that a fighter cannot suddenly learn how to transform into a dragon.
Stats
STR: Determines how many items you can carry, and which weapons you can use. Now is also important for HP.
SPD: Determines who goes when during combat. Also decreases cost for movement per STA point.
STA: Determines how many combat turns you can last and non-combat actions you can take before exhaustion. Also works as makeshift MP points. Is also part of HP.
Skill: Determines how skilled you are in ordinary combat eg. Hand-to-hands, Sword etc. Is also part of damage dealing process.
Sub-skill: A skill not related to fighting, or magical in nature, such as cooking. Does not affect completely mundane skill such as cooking.
HP:STA+ Half of STR.
Resist: your general skill at resisting things, such as mind-control, damage while occupied etc.
Combat
Combat works like so:
Fastest person goes first
It then proceeds to:
Character chooses attack target
Attacker rolls 1d6 to determine whether or not the attack even gets close enough to connect.
The target and attacker roll 1d6+Skill score+Relevant bonuses and compare.
Whoever has the highest score is the attack that connects.
Highest Score- Lowest Score= Damage dealt.
An example would be:
Mage casts Fireball on Kobold.
Kobold counteracts with Hailstone.
Mage= 4+8(skill level)+1(staff of fire)=13
Kobold= 2+5(skill level)=7
13-7=6 damage.
Obviously, characters and monsters already engaged in combat cannot counteract. You compare their Resist score instead.
Mundane skills such as cooking, while requiring rolls, aren't affected by any bonuses. Skill level determines what you can cook.
Movement and Resting
Movement operates on a grid-based system. For each 10 SPD, you gain an additional movement per STA point in one non-combat turn. Therefore, if someone has 10 SPD, they can move 3 squares in a turn, instead of the usual 2. This only applies during combat, however. Outside of combat, you can move as many squares as you want, though each 10 squares of movement cost 1 STA point. Resting regenerates 4 points of STA per non-combat turn, and 2 during combat.
