I don't disagree with that- I think it's necessary in order to have an engaging game with such a short timespan though. Are there any changes you'd propose?

The number of teams could be decreased to 3 (2 town, 1 scum): classic LYLO.  This would push the balance more towards town, both by lowering the number of incorrect targets and by lowering the number of townteams that have to be united in voting against the scum.  As with 4 teams, any erroneous vote at the end would lead to a scum victory (again: classic LYLO), but a united vote against the scumteam is somewhat more likely.

Moving to 5 teams (4 town, 1 scum) is another possibility.  This would increase the chance of erroneous town votes (more incorrect targets), but would be more forgiving of mistakes (two townteams would have to be wrong for scum to win).  This would also keep the fun of looking at more than two teams.

Either way, the game would still be a rather scum-leaning one, but less so.  In addition, the core idea of the game would be kept intact.

4 teams is really a sweet spot for scum.

5 teams would be even worse than 4 teams - there'd be only a 20% chance of a town win, and the 25% chance on four teams is already pretty bad.  I don't see how it's "more forgiving of mistakes" - this game would still have absolutely zero tolerance for them, it's just it would be even harder to not make one.

I think the best team game would be Polygamist, or some modified version of Polygamist which is less vulnerable to random lynching:

I was (a bit excessively) focusing on an issue your analysis does not touch upon.  You focused on how random lynches would go, whereas I focused on how player behaviour and the rules interact in a way that makes it almost impossible for town to lynch the right target.

The mistakes I referred to were at the level of single voting groups, instead of at the level of lynches.  At least at 5 teams (which is definitely the less balanced of my two suggestions), not every townteam has to be right for town to win.

I don't think I'm comfortable changing the game too much now that I've already put it up, but I might continue the discussion in the off topic thread.

I don't think this is much of a factor though.  It also requires a lower proportion of the town to mislynch at 5p (only 2 out of 4 instead of 2 out of 3 teams).

Due to the shortness of this, I think I'll still try to play even without home Internet.
