I mostly flipflop between 90's-00's hard rock and rockpop bands (Linkin Park, Three Days Grace, Green Day, Hoobastank, Muse, The Used, etc.) and electronica stuff like glitchhop and progressive house. (BT, Glitch Mob, Unlimited Gravity, Haywyre, Tiesto, Approaching Nirvana, etc.)

Sometimes I'll listen to Nox Arcana for Dark Fantasy themes.

Depends largely on my mood.

I've been listening mostly to the Soundsense default pack, however I am considering writing more retro music to match (what I feel is) the overall aesthetic of the game. Something like NES (w/VRC6 and/or VRC7) or something. If I get anything done, I'll make a post or something about it.

Soundsense. Occasionally the same songs over and over gets boring and instead I listen to whatever. Sometimes metal, sometimes hard rock, classic rock, post rock, ambience, trance, chillstep, drum n bass, electronic, one time I tried a dubstep mix. Whatever I'm into at the moment. "Whatever I'm into" can be almost anything, if it's good enough.

Also fantasy music or "trailer" music mixes and stuff like LotR or Hobbit soundtracks for when I want the fantasy feeling.

I just listen to soundsense. Some thematic mining music might be appropriate, though:

I listen to audiobooks. Dwarf Fortress is great for absorbing a good book. Try it sometime!

Actually, on that note, I normally listen to GameGrumps. It's a comedy gaming Youtube channel. But they absolutely suck at games to the point where its not funny anymore, so their comedy minus watching them butcher games from my chilhood plus Dwarf Fortress equals A-OK. It's almost mathematical.

I listen to Still Alive, fits the game perfectly.

Fire coming out of the monkeys head. its got the right kind of tempo and it also happens to be a song about strange folk coming to a peacefull mountainside murdering the indigenous population, and then mining minerals until they accidentally release a great evil which kills them all... it fits quite well
