As i backed this 2 years ago, i thought it worth mention that it is finally out on early access [$15 until may 9]
Website:
http://darkforgegames.com/nekro/I played it for a bit over a hour and a half today.
First Thoughts:Used the melee-style necromancer, felt a bit weak/fragile later on, but overall combat feels very fluid and challenging with my grappling hook, and spinning dashes. [you start by picking 1 of 3 nekro's with different styles/abilities]
Very gorey ingame, decent narrator for the -inbetween- descriptions that are basically identical to dungeon keepers campaign plot style, darkish style 'humour' thats ok, but not as good as bullfrog's.
Takes a bit to get actual 'minion' style minions (the first couple are like AOE arrow, freeze/Dmg Aoe arrow, plant-turret), the 4th being the pudge, a melee minion that on death explodes AOE. Your first 'minion', the AOE arrow, can also create minions from a few things scattered around levels: jackolaterns, skeletons[not corpses], a troll egg. Also if you cast some of your summon minion spells on corpses they get supercharged.
You also acquire items as you go, that are basically 1-3 use mini-spells [you get them back every new level, so you pick the 4 you want].
You spend 'sins' that you collect during levels, from completeing levels/some monster drops[mini-bosses mostly] to buy new minion-types and upgrades for minions, you also collect 'powers', 1 per level that upgrade your nekro's damage/life/mana
You also can eat corpses to get blood, and some is left when you outright destroy bodies.. which is your 'mana', picking it up also heals you and nearby allies/summons.
Overall, it feels very polished, i had 0 bugs at all, which is a bit amazing to me for a early access game.
I haven't tried the Co-op, since very few people own it atm, but i have no reason to believe it doesn't work...
I'm unsure how long the actual content is, i seemed to be moving through the world/levels fairly quickly. Apparently they are going to keep adding stuff, like more nekros, summons, trinkets, more levels, more boss fights ect...
Some screens [warning: gore]:Also, in-game looks better then the actual screens.. not sure why the game screenshots so poorly...
