Thanks for the update! One suggestion, but I think the save system or any sort of save NEEDS to be present before any sort of release for a 4X game. They are simply too long and complex to play in one sitting, so waiting three releases is going to put a serious dent in your betatester community.

Thanks for the update! One suggestion, but I think the save system or any sort of save NEEDS to be present before any sort of release for a 4X game. They are simply too long and complex to play in one sitting, so waiting three releases is going to put a serious dent in your betatester community.

Yeah, no doubt. There's a chance it will be in .7, but with the type of game AotSS is and using Unity, you kind of have to 'roll your own' save and load system due to GameObjects and how data is stored in that engine. You can serialize/deserialize data, but it's not as easy to do as it is in other engines. I don't want to overpromise on that end. You can't 'sort of' have a save load system - it either works, or not. :D

Yeah, no doubt. Annoying that Unity hasn't put a system in place for that - I've heard a few devs voice similar grievances about it. However, I really would make it a priority - it's an absolute must for 4x games. More than that though, I think your perspective on the game changes once you can save/know you can come back to it.
If I was beta-testing and knew I would only have 3-4 hours max of a given playthrough and a crash (which is likely in beta) could wipe everything, I'll be playing very differently to if I know it's all safely saved away. This might be subconscious, but I feel it will seep into opinions and beta suggestions.

Reckon you are still the suprah special emprah with the game ending on your death?  I havn't read anything between then and now...

So what about a clone option/newgame+... for when you die.
If you are not popular enough, but still not reviled, you could be cloned, years later, rather then immediately.  Shit somehow hit the fan and people once again turn to the suprah special emprah to save the empire.

That would make a very interesting option.

You could have the universe move on 100 years or so and then you could begin again. However, you would be in a drastically reduced position - many might not think you're a true revival/whatever and you wouldn't have access to the same funds/abilities as before. There would be a new emperor you'd need to overthrow, and your past allies might not even be around anymore.

 It'd be a very interesting twist on death.

Huh. Interesting. Probably not something that we'd add on first release but I like it!
