Name: Devonayx.
Physical age: About 27
Race: Caledonian - A fictional race of my creation from about five years ago. Not to be confused with Frenchmen from Calais. Mind you, these were invented a while ago, so... Humanoid creatures of about average human size. Covered in a thick, smooth blue fur. ( It is blue naturally, though not to the shades that most of them have. ) They have bone horns that generally slant backwards away from the face slightly and often resort to them needing higher doorways. These horns are rarely more than a 12-18" long, but that's still enough to warrant ducking for the taller individuals on a ship built for humans. Their horns are generally blue, but not naturally. The race ingests dye which colours their horns blue and lends a deeper and more vibrant blue to their fur. This is done as a status symbol mostly, but also because the majority of their main species finds it elegant, beautiful, or otherwise preferable and attractive. Among some of the lower classes the horns are used for playful combat, but this practice is shunned by the upper-classes as rude and animalistic. Also, they have five fingers ( counting thumbs ) on each hand, like a human, but their pinky fingers are considerably smaller when compared to a human's. Their feet do not resemble a human foot so much as a cat-paw, but even that resemblance is not very strong. However, this will never be important as every single one wears shoes. ( It is a severe disgrace to be shoeless, to the point where those very poor who literally could not afford shoes, or those whose shoes were in obvious disrepair were actually entitled to demand new shoes of anyone who could afford to buy them for them, along with a meal and a place to sleep. ) This connection between shoeless and poor or not right of mind might be somewhat relevant as Devonayx, being especially upper-class, would take severe pity on any shoeless characters ( even those not of his race ) and attempt to provide them shoes from the rather limited stock he has aboard his ship. This may cause culture class with any race that thinks that shoes are weird or unnatural.
Description: Devonayx is particularly prone to roam and does not like staying in the same place for long. He was expected to get a job in the capitol, but instead chose to join in with the new Space Navy. He has since decided that it was too regimented for him and respectfully resigned, using his own funds to procure a surplus craft and take up a roll as a privateer. He is expected to aid any ships of his home planet, trade, and participate in certain diplomatic tasks ordered to him. Currently, with no standing orders, he's just wandering about trading. This is probably where he'll come in with this RTD. That's about all I have to note on him, story-wise. He's about average height and build for his species ( So around 5'8", 5'9" not counting his horns and 175 lbs., most of it not fat. ) His horns are a bit short, only about 11" long, but he doesn't ever think about it, nor is it ever brought up by anyone he knows. They are angled back at a slightly steeper angle than is normal, which is fortunate for him because it means he can easily fit through a 7' doorway. He is not incredibly vain, but he does still partake in ingesting dye, as does his crew, and generally maintaining a well-kept appearance. ( Washing and combing his fur and the like. Styling the facial fur, which is shortest, though this habit was picked up from his interactions with other specieses which have actual beards instead of impression ones. ) He doesn't particularly care for authority, but gets along with it okay most of the time. ( Simply for the sake of making his life easier, and he doesn't have a lot of superiors. ) He doesn't try, but he does sometimes give off a haughty air, especially with cultures that are different than his. ( Despite thinking himself very different from his kind. ) However, this can usually be broken after a little while.
Equipped Weapons:
Primary: "Standard pistol" - A pistol that fires bullets. Simple as that. ( Holds 25 shots per clip. 22 caliber compatible, though it uses bullets that are technically 21 calbier by default and is loaded with 23 caliber bullets currently. The differences should be negligible. ) Relative power: Cannot pierce most modern armour, but is useful for taking out weak points.
Secondary: "Alloy saber" - A strong carbon steel alloy with silver inlay. ( Mostly decorative, but made to be usable in combat. Despite being called a saber, it is more similar to a rapier. It has one cutting edge and a slightly flattened edge for blocking but it is for stabbing. ( Think of a triangular prism that ends in a razor tip. I'll draw it, if necessary. )) Is sharp enough and has a thin enough blade that it can pierce most fiber armours and slice at the weak points of armour.
Tertiary: "Diplomat's gun" - Fires three energy shots per charge, then is totally useless, except perhaps as a bludgeon. ( Gift from a foreign dignitary. ) The shots are enough to disable an armoured human for at least two minutes, and take out low-end energy shields without problem. It's relatively powerful, but not terribly reliable due to the small size of the shot and the low shot-count. Has the bonus effect of stun, if that wasn't obvious, but on an unarmoured or improperly armoured foe, it is easily fatal as the shots can go through flesh with ease. ( Takes about six hours to achieve full charge. )
Equipped Gear: Overcoat ( woven fur ), poly-satin shirt ( light and comfortable ), armoured vest ( capable of blocking bullets, equipped underneath shirt), light energy armour ( that is, armour designed to absorb energy shots up to a point ), sturdy denim trousers ( best trade ever ), ducal necklet ( silver alloy, status symbol only ), auto-darkening face visor with rebreather ( in case of emergencies ), laser cutting torch ( because it's the closest thing to a light-saber or energy blaster that their race has developed, but it's still a tool not a weapon. ), Magnetic fall boots ( have shock absorbing springs in case of needing to leap from vessel to vessel, with electromagnets in case of artifical gravity failure or external repairs being necessary. ), pressurized undergarments ( also in case of emergency, so that rapid depressurization doesn't instantly kill him. ), Energy shield ( traded for, protects against most attacks as long as charge is maintained. ), back-up battery ( for charging the energy shield or the diplomats gun, can be itself recharged by energy absorbed by the energy armour. )
Inventory: vial of indigo dye ( read the race's description, it makes sense in context ), 1 space suit ( good for two hours in space), spare battery ( fits into the backup-battery mechanism, currently at half-capacity ), flask of purified water ( not the most preferable drink, but it'll keep hydrated. ), 50 generic gold coins, palladium trinket ( a small palladium scuplture in radiation-proof "glass" ), "virtually indestructable" bag for holding stuff, disgusting nutrition bar ( will trade for real food. )
Skills: Piloting spaceships (+1 to rolls involving piloting ships, -1 in case of overshoot.), Mechanics ( +1 to *learning* how to use a machine, +2 to utilizing and repairing a machine when he has learned to use it. ), Sword-combat (+3 in combat involving his blade, +2 for blades in general, -1 in case of overshoot),
Abilities: Charisma ( +2 bonus to diplomacy/pacification/negotiation/bartering ), Obviousness (+1 to getting people's attention, -2 to Sneaking ), Pain-tolerance (-1 to others' rolls to inflict unconsciouness )
Weaknesses: Gun ineptitude (-1 if +1 won't yield an overshoot when using a firearm ), Armour is weak to non-energy, melee attacks. (Crits have 2 lower threshold on pure melee attacks), Sensitive stomach (More susceptible to nausea, +2 on nausea-inducing attacks, +1 extra turn to recover from nausea, -1 to eating mysterious substances without getting sick. ), Defiance. ( Will exhibit in roleplaying more than stats. )
Other: Nope. His horns can't really be used as a very effective weapon, unless there's something immediately behind his head, so there's not even really a need to stat those. He has no body modifications other than a single ear-piercing.
