Well, it may be that he had been used to be the one punching the punching bag the Japanese are after the first 30 days or so and expected a less intensive war. Him sighting the Ceylon invasion fleet, losing CVL Charlotte and yet another unescorted merchant to a submarine attack in the same day after what was probably(to him) most horrible and much worse than expected first 100 turns may have been enough. He could have gotten a hint on the large IJA force flanking him in Northern China as well. I dont hold high hopes. There is more than what I've told here and could be something I dont know about.

If this one doesn't progress any further I need to switch to a game where the full campaign isnt 1200+ turns... Perhaps single player or even Bay12 PvP? I could do an AAR of some kind, just play with Bay12 people(I sit alone in Bay12 TeamSpeak right now) or something else you guys would be interested in seeing. I dont want to stream, preferring written AARs with pictures and possibly short video clips in the future. Myself I'd be more or less interested in these games, in no particular order:

Battletech/MegaMek(preferably single games/scenarios and trying out different stuff, preferably PvP but non-competive(balanced or otherwise)
maybe Europa Universalis 4
Hearts of Iron III(or maybe not, it's too easy)
Il-2 Sturmovik
Shogun/Medieval: Total War
Age of Empires 2(actually I'm downloading the HD version atm)
World of Tanks
perhaps continue the Silent Hunter III Gray Wolves AAR where I ran out of patience  :P
Heroes of Might and Magic III
Age of Wonders
Master of Orion II
Kerbal Space Program
Arma II series / Day Z

Are you into Men of War: Assault Squad at all? I'm not much into competitive or long games these days, so some cooperative MoW:AS action is pretty nifty!

I just got a desktop computer, so I'd like to try A2, but I don't think I've got my CD's for a reinstall with me :( I used to really like the srs bsns servers with ACE/ACRE...

Oh, Silent Hunter campaign.

That was a very interesting read.

Hmmmm gotta think about SHIII too then. Has there been a Bay12 Shogun or Medieval: TW AARs? I don't mean the new ones with eye candy, but the old ones with province maps and 2d sprite troops.  :)

Yes, yes there was. I did one with the Viking Campaign, but partway through the game just... gave up and I wasn't able to continue.

In other words, yes please. Another one would be awesome.

Can do Shogun but need to find an older PC somewhere - my desk machine can run it but it flickers like hell and I'd probably get physically sick within 15 minutes.

Any votes for this little game?

Just a single mission I thought that would demonstrate the game well. Though good part of the time is spent in the hangar refitting and equipping the units, selling salvage, meks or unneeded components and buying needed ones, and so forth..

Dang, one day I'll have to learn to play WitP, just so that this forum can be graced with a complete LP.

It seems like the problem is that this is a very long game, which nevertheless can be very heavily impacted in a very short timespan.

Absolutely, and the most so for the Japanese player: 6 CVs, 10 BBs, 18 CAs and 30-ish CLs and almost no reinforcements for the 3+ years. Even if its just the Navy, thats not a lot of pieces to play a 1300-turn game.
