AS in OP, Weapon/Stonefall/Cage traps can be build by both, Siege equipment is exclusive to Gloves....

First part out!!!

Orbsshock's Overseers' journal,entry 2:than 402

9th Granite,128.

What a battle!Like the goblins and the treehuggers were not trouble enough, now we have necromancers to worry about. And it looked like such a nice place to settle...Well,as my father always said,to be a dwarf is to be beseiged. That's how we survived, that's how we became strong and ventured into places where humans and elves would not dare to tread. And to be an Iron Fist is to be in constant vigilance,a guardsman against a hostile world full of goblins, elves and undead.I knew that when i took the oath and never regretted my choices. That's how life always was,and that's the way it has to be.

Still,we lost many good dwarfs that day.One of them was my nephew, and aspiring marksdwarf by the name of Edem Tosidlorsith.Another was my cousin,Sarvesh Zuglarber, another marksdwarf.I swear to every god that exist or that will ever exist, their deaths will be avenged.

After the battle was finished,4maskwolf,the Captain Of The Guard and current Overseer, asked us to meet him in his office. When we all got there,he informed us that according to Tradition,he had to step down from the position of the Overseer. He said that due to the recent events,he could not see anyone but a soldier rise to power. He then asked for volunteers.Since no one seemed willing to take over,i volunteered."Congatulations",he said."You are now the Overseer.I shall inform you about the rights and the obligations of your position, and the problems out fort is currently facing. The rest of you are dismissed".

Well, let's hope that everything will turn out okay.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

10th Granite,128

First day as an Overseer...wow,i don't think i will ever get used to being called that.

The fist thing i noticed,is that we completely lack a graveyard.I ordered 20 coffins to be constructed immediately. These dwarves gave their life for the fort,a proper burial is the least we could do to honor them.Speaking of which,i also have to replace the casualties.I assigned what few marksdwarves knew how to hold a crossbow to our marksdwarf squad, and a few more to our military squards as well,so now we have a standing army of 27 dwarves, almost half our population. We can expect migrants soon,so that won't be a problem for long.

12th Granite,128

As i was sparring,i saw a swordsdwarf,Mebzuth Gebstukos,a.k.a. our only potter, cry scream and curse. He cursed the goblins,he cursed his luck, and his choice to settle in this place.Although the sight of him throwing a tantrum was quite disturbing(and annoying, and sad),i can't really blame the poor guy. He's been through a lot lately.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

And he's been standing there with a broken leg for days, somebody send him to the hospital, already. In other news,i resumed the production of armors, specifically breastplates and placed doors in front of our refuse stockpile.

2nd Slate,128

Lots of stuff happened in the past weeks. After several days of shouting and crying, someone finally remembered poor Mebzuth and took him to his bed.I then noticed the reason he was ignored for so long:We don't have a hospital!Well, our dormitory was just promoted to hospital...The graveyard is all but finished too.In our search for minerals,we have excavated very large spaces in the second layer.I set our graveyard there, and i also set a stone stockpile, since out previous one was insuffecient.Kinda hard to work when you have to watch your step with all these boulders around. We got some new life too!A boy and a girl, apparently born in the same day.Congratulations,Endok and Ustuth.

I also saw Asob Bibankubuk, the commander of our marksdwarves, wander in the halls. When i asked him where he was going,he ignored me and started rambling something about "elder spirits" and "gift from the mountains".Then he went to his room and started shouting for hours, where is it,where is it,where is it?One of the creepiest things i've ever seen...
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

7th Slate,128

I noticed that one of the graves was used to bury one of these horrible necromancer that attacked us,the dwarf.I was quite upset about it,but the other dwarves informed me that it was necessary, otherwise he would return as a ghost, while retaining all of his powers.Still,a waste of space.

Five days later,Asob is still locked into his room, shouting and hitting the walls. Some people who know him informed me that he was a great jeweller, and so he probably needs an appropriate workshop,of which we don't have.On the one hand, working with jewelry is against the Fists code of conduct, but on the other hand...i've seen a mood fail to produce results before. It ain't pretty. The girl was barely an adult, and she started screaming so loudly i thought her throat would shatter. She then started to attack whoever went near her, breaking a man's arm and killing a cat by ripping the poor thing in half.We had to kill her...I still have nightmares of that day.

13th Slate,128

Okay, that's it.I won't see another incident like this.I will construct a jeweler's workshop and bring it down when he finishes with it.It's technically against the rules, but it's the best compromise i can come up with.

Why is it taking so long for our armorers to start with our armors?

25th Slate,128

Okay,so when i said armorers, apparently i should have said armorer, because we've got only one and he's not very good at his job either.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I remedied the situation by allowing some more people to craft armors,so finally we have our first steel breastplates. The craftsdwarfship is...not very good, but it's passable, and it surely deflects goblin axes better than our chests.I also allowed some gem cutters in order to construct that Armok damned jewelry.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Oh,poor goblin. You just so happened to show up when i wanted something to discharge the pressure of the past few months...
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

27th Slate,128

Sadly,he got away. But now we have a very annoying coyotes to take care of.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Well, better than nothing,i guess. That should put some more meat on the menu, and some more pelts for our marksdwarves' armor.

2nd Felsite,128

28 new migrants have arrived.Good,we need some extra hands.I also placed Inod Areklogem, our bone carver,as our chief medical dwarf.Bone carver, bone setter...whatever.How bad can it be?

10th Felsite,128

Finally,he started his super special awesome project using...a single gem...It better be worth it

17th Felsite,128
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

A prase flash, menacing with spikes of prase...At least he can go back to business,so it's something,i guess. In other news...
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

THE HELL???

Oh,and the elves came back...more free stuff and a nice way to train our army?Don't mind if i do!

20th Felsite,128

The elves are done for,the zombie coyote came closer and we put it down, and the goblins sent some more snatchers.Business as usual.Oh,and the goblins sent another patrol, which we took care of rather easily.

22th Felsite,128

Finally,the necromancer showed his face.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

He raised parts of the goblin ambush, and in typical wizard cowardice,he got away before we could give him his just desserts. The goblins sent another ambush, and apparently there's another necromancer around, because the previous ambush is now fighting with the current one.Sadly,a marksdwarf found himself in the middle and got killed.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The stress of the position...So many dead...No,must stay calm...Must lead us out of this shithole...
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Dear Armok, the child too.Who would be stupid enough to bring a baby to battle?

1st Hematite

Aaand, now the elves are coming back to haunt us.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

6th Hematite
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Another dead, and we're still unable to find the necromancer. That does it.Half my army is in the hospital, the other half fights naked.I'll have to shut down the fort for a while, regroup and then return with proper equipment.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

It is done. The fortress is now in a lockdown. We'll stay that way for a while, take care of our wounded, craft some equipment, raise our spirits a bit and then regroup and drive the necromancers, the goblins and everything else out there away.

If you finish the towers you can rain some arrows down at necromancers without getting really in the way.... Also, it is amusing as hell to see what happens when players learn about the tower when it is already too late^^

And now our weaponsmith is left outside...and i haven't found where the hell the necro is hiding...and we're fighting a zombie apocalypse naked...and you're a jerk :)

If i survive,i'm placing some ramps in the moat. The way it is now,it's more lethal to us than to our enemies

Second one's probably won't be late too.I'm starting to stabilize this place, and our armors are coming up fine.If i am unable to reclaim the surface,at the very least i will make sure the next overseer has some stable bases.

Summer update!

11th Hematite,128
Our weaponsmith is stranded outside. Our mayor too(since when do we have a mayor?).I can't open the gate. Can't risk the lives of everyone in the fort for two people, cruel as it is.And now we're stranded without a well.I'll build one(after i make some changes to the setting of the fort).I just hope no one dies from dehydration in the meantime.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

14th Hematite,128

Is...is anyone allowed to do anything in this fort? That's why everything's taking so long, people. We're at war,we don't need fine craftsmanships,we need immediate results,or else we don't stand a chance!

22nd Hematite,128

I have planned a tunnel that will eventually allow us to counterattack. It will be a small tunnel, leading outside and away from the moat.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

It will normally be sealed by a stone wall, and it will have traps for good measure. All in all, things seem a little bit more stable now.I will also start producing some leather shields. Not my favourite material, but will have to do.

4th Malachite,128
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Well number one's complete! Now all we have to worry about is building a few more farms...
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Congratulations,i guess. If only the circumstances were better...
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

You too,Morul.Strange thing about the babies, they all seem to come together...

15th Malachite,128

We have enough breastplates. Now we need helmets.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Unbelievable and unacceptable. The poor guy's been without water for days, and everyone was ignoring him.

17th Malachite,128
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

So,this Asob,a.k.a. the guy with the jewel fetish, has been elected mayor(i didn't vote for him),since our previous one died outside. So i was just sitting in the dining room, relaxing and drinking my beer, and there he comes, saying that he needs an office,a better room and he also wants us to craft a table.

"Sir",i said,"You do realize that we are under siege right now, people keep dying all around and then return to gnaw us because nobody has bothered to check if there was a necromancer lair in this hellhole, right?"
"The table is important",he insisted.Sure, what the hell?If that's what it takes for that looney to leave me alone...
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

19th Malachite,128
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Awesome.EXACTLY WHAT WE NEED!This better be worth it...Also,these annoying parrots have returned...
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

21st Malachite,128
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Wonderful coordination, guys.Well,i guess i can't leave them all to die outside too.I'm utilizing the back door.May Armok be with us.I ain't hiding anymore when dwarven lives are on the line.

And so it begins
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

26th Malachite,128
We got outside.4mask shouted:

"Get inside! We'll hold them off for you!"Hunted by the living dead, the migration wave ran outside. The marksdwarves took their positions to shoot, and we formed a circle around them,as usual. And then...
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

What is that fool doing?Back into the line, moron.

3rd Galena,128

The battle's over. The marksdwarves charged blindly into the undead, and all but 3 are dead. The good news, are all but 1 of the migration wave are alive and well.I don't like the odds, but it was better than just leaving them all to die. Also,we have no wounded ones, which means no risky rescue missions today.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Sorry, maam, but you should have entered when i said so.I'm not risking the lives of my men for you. No,that ain't right. We are the Fists. No one's left behind. Not anymore. We will save you,ma'am.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

What the hell are you doing,we're over here!

9th Galena,128
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Finally! Now everyone back inside, before they rise again.

11th Galena,128

The rescue mission went flawlessy. Not even an injury, the dead are still outside and the lady is safe.

If only the other soldiers saw it that way...
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

13th Galena,128
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Bwahahaha, really? The goblins sent a siege force. If i can call that a siege force.Well, have fun crawling through the zombie infested corpseyard that is now our surface.

16th Galena,128
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Normally i'd tell you to go (scribbled),but since the mood in the fort is already pretty shitty and i don't need a tantrum spiral to boot the disaster that is my Overseering,i shall break the rules again...Gods,i hate my job.

(OOC:yeah,i know that is a gross violation of my rights, but really a tantrum spiral is the last thing i need right now.)

Well,at least some wagons run on time. The helms are complete.Next will be mail shirts.

22nd Galena,128
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Hopefully our mayor will stop pestering me about the rooms when he gets better.I will also slaughter all grazing animals, since we cannot provide for them, and we really need the meat and the hides.

25th Galena,128
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Finally,i found a use for the mayor's table.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Yeah,as i was saying,i really hope it's worth the trouble.

28th Galena,128
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

You did what you had to, your transgressions will be forgiven.... but not forgotten...

You know, in D&D a DM can forcefully change PC's alignment if the player plays completely opposite to it for a time.... I may consider adding it to the rules^^

Autumn update!I'm on fire today!

1st Limestone,128:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

This better be the best amulet i've ever seen,or else you're in the military.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Okay, you dodged that bolt. The amulet is pretty nice.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Well,at least somebody's happy,even for stupid reasons.

6th Limestone,128

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Not enough undead running around, apparently.I would have gotten to engrave these guys anyway...

27th Limestone,128
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Rest in peace,fallen comrade.

2nd Sandstone,128

Since we cannot go up yet,we will go below.I'll start digging until i find a cavern,or something suffeciently interesting.

13th Sandstone,128
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Dear diary, success! Now i have to fill the hole and open a proper, defendable entrance, and then the cavern(and its resources) is ours for the taking!

Also,i began smelting some more iron.

25th Sandstone,128

Ok,the hole is closed, and the mail shirts are ready. Now we need greaves.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Juuust great...another one!

4th Timber,128
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Badgers versus zombie pieces.Who will win?

15th Timber,128

Apparently,the badgers.Go team badger!

Also,a strang phenomenon has been observed:Ever since we breached the cavern, new plants started to grow in our soil.I will open some more soil to exploit this phenomenon. With some luck,we will have our own personal forest and pasture without fear of zombies, goblins and whatever cute creatures inhabit the caverns.

And now for the Grand Finale:

13 Moonstone,128

With my overseership reaching its end and with the greaves finally ready,i have decided to take the battle to our unliving foes.I would have preferred it if we also had steel boots and gauntlets, but it will have to do.I lost the surface, therefore i must reclaim it.The militia is in a far better shape now that we have actual armor.I will also have to start recruiting people to refill our squads, but this will be my last act as an overseer. For now,we will do with what we have.I still have some shields on the queue. When they're done,we will go outside and show the zombies, the necromancers and the goblins why dwarf is synonymous to legend.

22nd Moonstonem,128
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

We stand at the gates of the fort.Armed with steel, weilding mastefully crafted weapons and with a grim determination in our hearts. Most of us have lost at least one friend or relative to the foe.I lost five, the last and most painful being my wife. Her corpse is still out there,as are many corpses of loved ones, some still some still moving. No more,i,than402,commander of the Gilded Paddles and second overseer of Orbsshocks, shall end the siege today or die trying.Men and women of Orbssocks, charge!
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Wait a minute, where the hell are the zombies? The necromancers?Even the goblins have left...Okay,i hear something in the water, but it's just a baby's reanimated arms,i doubt it will reach us,much less threaten us.

That was anticlimatic.

23rd Moonstonem,128

Well,at least the surface is ours again,so that is...something.I won't lower the bridge yet, though. The tunnel will suffice.I also order all corpses to be buried,or at least get inside.Wouldn't want them to start moving again if some necromancer shows up again,do we?

27th Moonstone,128
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Welcome to Orbsshocks.Never mind the corpses, the filthy, cave adapted ragtag people moving around like zombies or the smell,we are really a wonderful place.

4th Opal,128
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

THEY'RE IN THE LAKE,THEY'RE SMALL AND BARELY DANGEROUS TO A FREAKING BADGER!!!STOP ANNOYING ME!!!

11th Opal,128

Now that i'm done with our deadliest foes(a goblin's arm and a baby's arm),work continues normally.I mandated some more coffins, because you can never have enough, and when that douche lets go of the craftsdwarf workshop i will memorialize the ghost baby too.

12th Opal,128

FINALLY,THE GHOST BABY IS GONE!

3rd Obsidian,128

Now that my overseership reached its last month,i must tie up the loose ends with the military.I shall fill all five squads, and leave a worthy and well equipped(for the most part) military to protect the fort in the future.

18th Obsidian,128
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Poor 'bold

1st Granite,129

Spring has arrived, and my overseership is at an end.I take no pride in my accomplishments, because there were none and many lives have been lost to my incompetence.I lost the surface, and almost doomed us all.Still, managed to reclaim it(albeit with minimal resistance),and i leave behing a military force stronger than ever, and orders for more equipment to be produced. When it will be done,we will fear no foe ever again. My advice to the next overseer is to connect the other two bridges and tread lightly in the caverns.than402 out.

Save coming soon.Yup,as soon as my computer does me a favor and finally uploads it.
