Is the main gate open?  They should have come in and gotten their asses kicked by now...

Yeah, but they just kind of waited outside and did nothing. Which I guess is a feasible strategy because one of the military dwarfs ran outside the walls for combat training and wandered into a squad of spear gators.  :-\ Actually managed to scare them off, but she lost part of a leg and ended up both vomiting and unconscious. But got better. Mostly.

8th of Hematite

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Turns our masons have come back from the dead. Huh. Three of the masons that were trapped outside just crawled in the front gates, starved, dehydrated, but alive.

23rd of Hematite
Old Farmer Etresal just got possessed and claimed a mechanics workshop.

21st Malachite
Etresal  made a tetrahedite mechanism, useful maybe but it'll be nice to have a legendary mechanic.

22nd of Malachite
Opened the front gate to bait the enemy into attacking. They seem content with just sitting around their campfires though, and my dwarfs are still stuck underground. At this rate all my dwarfs will have cave adaption by the time they leave.

25th of Malachite
That. Moron. You know what the first lesson they failed to pound into her skull at whatever excuse for a military academy she attended. You know what it was? Don't go Urist McJenkins. You know what she did? She went all out McJenkins! Axe held high she ran away from the rest of the militia and charged straight a goblin Spear Lord and his squad. Must of gotten bored of beating the blood out of her because the squad just...left. McJenkins actually managed to survive the ordeal with only a pair of fractured legs. Which is actually pretty lucky considering they were wielding spears.

14th of Galena
It is done. It is done. It is finally done. They gobs finally packed up and left. Oh frabjous day calloo callay.

27th of Galena
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Really need to make the wall higher so the goblins don't get a perfect firing angle on our dwarfs. Just 1 crossgoblin put four good soldiers in the hospital. A wall blocking just the training grounds from enemy fire helps but it's not a permanent solution.

Edit:Edit: Does anyone know what the two rightmost levers do? They aren't named.

OOh levers of mystery.

Reminds me of the time I set up the main bridge lever to the aquifer holding container by accident.

1st of Limestone
I honestly think the Miner's Guild is going to break my legs. Nothing like trapping your own miners through incompetence, eh?

25th of Sandstone
A migrant wave approaches nothing much though

7th Timber
Apparently there was a straggler from the siege in the moat. One of them Croc riders. Ended up full of holes though.

1st of Moonstone
Mostly a uneventful fall, but food is a bit scarce. The only real problem is my dwarfs like to run outside and hang out in this tunnel when on break.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

4th of Moonstone
Decided to spend a few resources building my own tomb. Might as well abuse my power a little.

11th of Moonstone
Caravan finally arrived and then immediately left. I think I could cry.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
17th Moonstone Why in Armok's name is a wild cave crocodile in the middle of my fortress?! It killed two dwarfs including the manager before an off duty guard killed it. But honestly we need the food, so I guess I can't complain.

19th of Opal
I can finally honestly say that food has started to stabilize steel production is still going but glass is at a standstill.
I've decided to build for the next Overseer a "Enemy Humiliation and Rehabilitation Center" for these Necromancers I've found locked away to make a firing range.

20th of Obsidian
Another worker got killed, he was caught in between the side door and a thief. The issue with dwarfs standing right on the side door bridge is extremely prevalent, and I'm not sure what's causing it.

30th of Obsidian
This is it my last day as Overseer. Even though the Fortress does not wish to "get rid of me" anymore I'm glad I'm able to step down to be honest. So many people have been wounded or killed under my watch I've started to stop caring. To the next Overseer  of these halls, The drink levels are fair but food is still low. I wasn't able to get much work done on the Enemy Humiliation and Rehabilitation Center but what's there is yours.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Same goes for whats of the magma pump, there are about 15 corkscrews and pipes. But I suspect there's an aquifer to the left.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
The towers only need the top levels completed on all four. The moat has been draining slowly all year and it should get low enough to wade in soon. I ask for only two things. My tomb has been completed except for the sarcophagus being put in place, please let me rest there if you would.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
And secondly please keep these people alive better than I have.

Okay, a few quick yelling at people things:
1. Why does the military not have enough gear.  I ordered enough steel gear for 40 dwarves through the manager.  Where is it?
2. Why was the military so damn f'd up?  I had speardwarves in my sword squad, swordsdwarves in my axe squad... you get the idea.
3. Why do we have two mineshafts to the depths and why is nothing connected to anything else?
4. Why did all of my squads have macedwarves in them?  None of them were mace squads.  If you wanted a mace squad, then make one.
5. What the hell do we have so many farms for?  We're on our way to slow fps death like that.

I'll probably have more to say in a bit.

here's what i can answer:

1.i don't know, when i left there were still many work orders on their way,i have no idea why they were not completed.
2.i didn't knew they were supposed to be sword, hammer, axe and spear squads.that, and we suffered so many casualties i could not afford to be picky
3.i just reached the first cavern, that's all the mining i did
4.see number 2
5.my bad,i opened some more space for some more farms and maybe a small pasture and some trees too.

I'll probably have more to say in a bit.

1)  No caravans made it in for 2 years and we cant go far outside for wood without soldiers to guard the woodcutters.  No fuel = no steel.
3)  I mined down to find the magma the standard way.  Ended up finding the tube and did an exploratory dig up to see how high it went.  Kind of roundabout, but the forging area is connected to the main hallway and they dont have to go all the way down.
5)  No merchants for 2 years and we had no animals to supplement our diet.  That meant a bunch of farms to cover both food and booze.  I built a few up on the surface because I didnt know if it was a bug or the biome that wasnt allowing any surface planting.  We could really use the booze variety until we can build security towers to get caravans to the depot safely, but its apparently not meant to be.
