Oh, yeah, no offense intended EuchreJack.

Actually, since unchecked expansions seems boring, I'll let someone else claim the new Patriarch, and he too can give me a mission.

None taken, don't worry.  Another mission would probably be more fun than unchecked expansion.

Next person to post (other than Sheb and me) is New Patriarch?

Ghazkull said he wouldn't complete his turn and someone else could take over. Since no one proposed himself, I did.

Hey, if you want to, here is the save, I only played 2 years though.

No that's cool, I just was wondering wth happened. Also, is your char dead yet? Because that's how we doin dis.

Actually what happens if our char dies nigh instantly? Would that still count as a turn or would we just continue as the heir for a more normal period of time?

Also, do we have to be the Emprah? Or could we start as a count/duke in his service?

There are revolt mechanics that might allow you to play as a count/duke.  And the Emprah might not always be the Emprah...

Generally in CK LPs, your character has to live one year in order for it to count, otherwise just play the heir as well.

Ok, for some reasons, my lasts screenies didn't work. Go figure, I only got plain black pictures.

The Most Radical Man in the Radical Land; a diary of Sheb Dodecakolpos, Byzantine Emperor

Today Patriarch BFEL barged in the court while I was trying to make a power drift with my chariot.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I must say I was half-relieved by this new divine mandate. I was going nowhere with the previous one, and invading Italy was at least something I could do. And well, that other half too.

I decided to start fast. I declared war to a bunch of sicilians principalties.

I decided to start with those because they'll need two wars to assimilate and I don't want to break truces.

And blew the whole Imperial Budget in inviting young girls to court.

I wish someone could tell me why inviting a débutante cost a year of a county's task.

I was quite successful on both counts.

It's good to be the Basileus

I wonder if they attend the same church I do

Luckily I have a secretary to keep track of my appointments with all my mistresses.

Jeez, someone should invent Viagra already

Okay, which one is it again?

Well, maybe more successful on one of the count. But still, slowly but surely I took over most of Sicily.

Not shown: my custom-made plate armor that let me have sex on the battlefield.

Still, after taking over the de jure Kingdom of Sicily, I had a problem. I lacked casus belli to take over Northern Italy.

I hate gray. Purple suits my maps better

The de jure Kingdom of Italy was divided between 3 powers, the Duchy of Spoleto, the Duchy of Tuscany and the Kingdom of Lotharingia. Claiming it county by county would take approximately forever. So what I need to do is find people to sit on the various thrones.

Here some page are missing*

I quickly find a pretender for the Duchy of Spoleto and install him in a war. However I mistakenly installed him as a Lord Mayor before winning the war.

So yeah. We now have a 8-provinces merchant republic.

At this point, I got distracted by a weird little man.

Spoiler: Charioteers Side Story (click to show/hide)

At this point I had some news from BFEL.

I knew sending him away was the smart solution!

Sadly, shortly thereafter, he was imprisoned by the Hungarian. Luckily he ransomed himself, but I do not dare sending him away again. The though of him dying... And of another man taking his place and giving me mandate! Brrrr...

Anyway, during that time, I also found a pretender for the throne of the Kingdom of Italy. Lothaire Karling was the younger brother of the King of Lotharingia. He had a strong claim to the Kingdom of Italy, but wouldn't join my court. I tried to have him assassinated many times so that his son, already in my court, you inherit the claim, but to no avail. Finally, he attempted to deposit his uncle, the King of East Francia and Bavaria with an host of adventurer. When he failed he was jailed, then freed to lead his uncle's armies against the Hungarian. At this point he had little love left for his family and was ready to join my court.

**More pages are missing

Finally, I put Lothaire in the Italian throne. Now I just need to press his claims to the rest of Italy. Including Rome. We shall soon have an Orthodox Patriarch in Rome!

*Well, screenshots are missing.

**Well, more screenshots.

So yeah, if someone wants to be Patriarch of Rome, he can propose himself and state his demands.

Do you have some specific, in-game ways of seducing all the ladies, or is that just the, err, natural consequence of so many young debutantes hanging around with no husbands all day?

What happened with the charioteer?

Ooops, apparently the last image is one that didn't make it through. The charioteer died in the accidents, and I crushed the little man's skull. He was actually a supporter of long-forgotten teams, the Whites and Reds, and wanted to use me to get the Blues and Greens down and resurrect those teams.

Also, no one for Patriarch of Rome?

Double post for update.

Apparently a copy of Basileus Sheb was found!

My son Leon is shaping up well. He'll make a strong Basileus one day. I gave him the Kingdom of Sicily for his Birthday, so he can figure out that whole ruling thing.

He seems to like this present better than the princess I got him for his 18th birthday.

Regarding Italy, the northern part is held by an evil king, Louis 'the Ill-Ruler' of Lotharingia

Well, they say he's kind but look at that mustache.

Now, the traditional way to grab large swathes of land is to find someone you can sit on the throne, make him into your vassal and press their claims. Of course, most of the Karlings weren't enthusiastic about quitting their lands to join the court of an orthodox Emperor. The only guy I could find was Hugues Karling, a legitimized bastard and a nephew of Louis Karling.

Sadly, his claims were weak. His father however, Louis' brothers had strong claims that could be pressed immediately.

Let's pretend it's a pic of before I got him to join, m'kay?

Now, I couldn't get Lothaire to join my court. I tried to have him killed, but he was hiding at the court of a small count, a court so small I couldn't find enough people for a decent plot. So I tried to have the count murdered, hoping his heir wouldn't be as popular with Lothaire. And this is the time Lothaire choose to raise a host and invade his cousin, the King of East Francia.

Here is a chart for you.

Ooops, I messed up with the settings.

Of course, Lothaire lost and was jailed. But when his cousins needed a general and freed him, Lothaire was sour, and he was ready to join my court. Of course, what needed to happen happened.

Progress!

I immediately celebrated by dumping my wife and marrying a younger one, to satisfy BFEL. However, having him marry us was a terrible idea, as he messed up the paperwork.

Divorce is going to be a bitch.

Now, as you've seen parts of Louis holdings weren't transfered to Lothaire, namely a duchy in sicily and some Lombardian lands he owned personally. The single best way to get them would be to press Lothaire's claim on Lotharingia, but this would have to wait until the truce is over. In the meantime, I realized I couldn't press his de jure claim, so I had to borrow his title for a while.

I promised to give it back, but he didn't seem happy.

I quickly invaded Genoa and Sardinia, before heading toward... Rome!

Their army must be made entirely of victims of child abuse to have a morale this low.

*At this point, the handwriting change.*

While Basileus Sheb fought well, a terrible blow knocked him to the ground senseless. After waking up, he was a changed man, incapable of speech or though.

The blow was so bad I saw the wrong sigil on that shield!

I, Basilessa Romane, had to take hard decisions to protect the Realm.

This was one of my hardest choice so far.

But they paid off. Rome was ours again, with a Patriarch siegeing in the St Peter Basilica.

I'm fairly certain his name is not Sergios though.

Okay, so my character is incapable. I actually feel like now would be a nice time to hand the game over. Mainiac, you can grab the save and start playing as Leon, maybe you can hasten the Emperor's death a little!
