I'm giving them civilization, and guiding them first before I give them magical artefacts of any sort. They need to learn responsibility, and social taboos before I let them near anything like that.

Okay, fine. Time to make a replacement.

Create a hollow meatball with a crude face on the outside and a scrap of paper on the inside. On the paper will be written two lines:
Ia! Ia! Cthulu ftaghn!
MOV 0 1

Thus it is written, and so it shall be! The meatball will be my new sphere, regardless of the outcome.
