« on: April 21, 2014, 08:53:47 am »

Just recommend some good movies/tv shows that you've watched to the internet!
Some movies that I've watched this year and enjoyed:

Also The Winter Solider, but that was already mentioned.

My movie recommendation: Safety Not Guaranteed.

This reminds me, I have The Warriors and Wayne's World on my computer ready to be watched.
So many popular movies I haven't seen.

...Does anyone know the name of that movie I saw years ago, where there's this kinda mopey kid with a lame leg, who befriends the owner of a chinese restaurant, hangs out with some hooligans in a sewer and gets washed down a drain, then ends up in some strange other world/reality which is home to these strange horse-headed people (in addition to humans) who have martial arts battles and stuff, and the kid has full use of his legs (but loses it again when he returns to Earth)?
...I really doubt it, but I've been wanting to find this movie for a long time.

Edit: WAIT HOLY SHIT I FINALLY FOUND IT! Thanks so much for making this thread, oh wow, I can finally rest easy as my life-long quest is complete. :')

- The Birth of a Nation (very controversial and politically incorrect)
- Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ (I've personally only seen the 1925 version, which was good; I've heard that the 1959 version is excellent as well)
- 2001: A Space Odyssey
- Fantasia & Fantasia 2000

Dead Man
Inglorious Bastards
everything Tarantino, basically.

Moon.
Limitless.
Attack on the Block.
Pacific Rim.

Recommendations off the top of my head, particular suggestions underlined:

- Tommy Wiseau's The Room (best if the game is played as well)
- Braindead (Dead Alive?)
- American Gangster
- Ed Wood
- In Bruges
- Mr. Sardonicus
- The Maltese Falcon
- Kung Fu Hustle
- Tucker & Dale vs. Evil
- Matchstick Men
- Casino (greater effect if you haven't seen Goodfellas first)
- Vampire's Kiss
- A Boy and His Dog
- Perfect Sense (seriously, check this one out)
- Oldboy (probably not the remake, though)
- Total Recall (probably not the remake, either)

Granted, my definition of "good movie" may not coincide with certain mindsets. But all of these I can personally recommend.

some good movies that you've watched

A few suggestions:

 * Frequently Asked Questions About Time Travel - Clever british time travel comedy.
 * Orgazmo - A good natured mormon boy gets recruited into the porno business. This is actually a comedy, not a porno.
 * Sneakers - Imagine if Wargames and Hackers had been a low-key drama with an all-star cast.
 * The Living Daylights - Probably my favorite Bond film. Curiously, with one of the least well known Bond actors.
 * Kickass - Deconstruction of the superhero movie genre that happens to also have the most awesome sidekick of all time
 * The Legend of Fong Sai Yuk - Probably Jet Li's funniest kungfu movie. Note that this movie has several different names depending on country of release.
 * Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure - George Carlin and some well-intentioned idiots save the human race.
 * Primer - This movie is not particularly fun, but if you like time travel movies, this one does things that others don't.

My list:

  • RoboCop: 80's cheese that gets surprisingly emotional at a few points.
  • Robocop 2014: Alright action film, not really a masterpiece but it has the same heart as the original IMO.
  • Star Trek: First Contact: My favorite Star Trek film by far. Has the classy feel of Deep Space Nine and the strong characters of The Next Generation, and a pretty kickass story that really fleshes out the pre-reboot Star Trek universe.
  • Ip Man: A really cool martial arts movie that is very loosely based on the life of Ip Man, the guy who trained Bruce Lee.
  • Iron Sky: A comedy about a secret Nazi base on the dark side of moon.
  • Terror of Mechagodzilla: Of all the Godzilla movies that used to be on Netflix, this was the best IMO.

Speaking of movie recommendations, there's a comedy movie about a pair of not-very-smart guys who end up visiting some guy who then dies...and so rather than report his death to the police they dress the corpse up in sunglasses and pretend he's just drunk while they throw a house party.

Anyone remember the name of that?
