Notify them that it is going well. Inform them that we have encountered a minefield, but should be done in a few more hours.

Have a squad of expendables move up towards the eastern western eastern(?) gate. Give them mine sweeping equipment if available.

+1. The Turncoat Militia seem most expendable.
Also send the other troops on that flank (2x Light Infantry + the other Militia) into covering positions in the woods in front of the gate. Also send a squad of infantry to have a closer look at the 'minefield'. Not too close, though.
EDIT - fixed grammar error.

Oh, as an addendum to my initial suggestion, let's see if throwing rocks does anything.

If you mean the checking of the minefield, incorrect. The minefield is outside the West gate, not the East one.

Can we please just send a militia into inside the gate that's completely opened up? ((East was it))

Notice also that the backyard on the other side is open as well....empire strikes first?

Militiamen can find out  8)

I'm pretty sure that 'open' is just the default view for gates, as we cannot actually see the one on the other side (at least, it wasn't mentioned), and all of the gates were in the 'open' position before we saw them (see 'starting deployment').
I'm in favour of checking out both gates. As I've said, we should send an infantry squad to check the minefield, and send a militia unit to investigate the East gate, with the other troops on that flank preparing to provide covering fire from the woods.
EDIT - yes, the East gate is the open one.

Spoiler: Begin Round 11 Map (click to show/hide)

Since you lack any form of minesweeping gear you send one of your infantry units on the western side forward to try, and search out the area and see if they can determine if the area is actually what they say it is. They quickly approach the area designated as a minefield and fine the majority of the grasslands in front of the gate covered in upturned dirt, there are so many spots that if the thing is a minefield they doubt you could move anything through it without some if not all of it getting blown to hell and back.

Elsewhere your men report that the militia have finally entered the forest, and are slowly making their way towards the open eastern gate while the remainder of the infantry on that side move in and begin taking up positions. So far nothing is happening so you decide to report back to your benefactor telling them that so far its going well, a few minor kinks have appeared in the form of a possible minefield but the operation should be done shortly. Before they disconnect they inform they will be in contact again later.

10 Rounds until the Empire calls for another Report
Spoiler: End of Round 14 Map (click to show/hide)

Well, let's just use some Soviet mine-clearing tactics!

Order the turncoats at gunpoint across the minefield to clear a path.

Meanwhile, we can cautiously explore the obvious trap eastern gate with some infantry squads.

send x2 infantry squads towards the eastern gate, and cautiously enter to secure a breach.

Have our assault vehicles poised outside the east gate, as reserve forces. Move our mortar squads closer to the walls, while leaving our artillery in the woods.

I dunno about blowing our guys up.

The enemy can't get through there either. Obviously they're trying to get us to go through the eastern gate. Maybe we can use the mortars to make it a bit safer before we send the men in there?

+1 to mortar the mine field and tell the militia to continue to search inside with the infantry ready to cover a possible retreat.

-1 it's very unlikely to work since most mines detonate only from high enough top-down preasure, so you'll have to step on that small part that's connected to the detonator. Just shaking it or throwing it around isn't enough (though it isn't smart or safe thing to do).

It would be better to try to sneak few infantry squads close to the walls under cover of those trees near the centre of the map while rest of our forces move closer to the eastern gate and prepare to charge to it, then try to get over the walls with few infantry squads and open that gate/distract the enemy while rest of our units charge in. If infantry can't open the eastern gate or get over the walls we should just charge it with vehicles while our artillery covers them.
Point is, try to go undetected as long as possible, and when that fails go in guns blazing. Don't risk crossing the mine field.
