Just a note, units lost are replaced at the end of the battle. We can just send one of our ammo trucks to blow up against the gate, if we want to.
I like this idea. I +1 this as a backup plan.

Just got back and read through the previous plan, and I agree. We should hit about 0300 in the morning, as that's when most guards are halfway through the night shift and very tired. We hit with surprise and speed, trying to take the western gate quickly, and shell just inside the walls to prevent a counter-attack. We need speed on our side, as a long siege doesn't fit well with our "Raider" style, does it?

We shell the east gate to suppress reinforcements. Maybe deploy a few infantry squads as well - remember, that's all they have. We take our assault vehicles and mortars out to the western gate and breach it will cannon and RPG fire, then move in while the mortars provide fire support.

And my vehicle squad - right now I only have a Tiger and infantry squad that I've claimed. I'll gladly give up the infantry, if I had more vehicles. Someone else claimed the extra set of Talons, unless they feel kind enough to let me have them :P

Although units lost are replaced, that doesn't mean we should treat them as expendable. For one thing, they will probably lose all of their experience, as they are replaced by recruits. And experience will probably prove vital in the long run, ao every little helps. Although I suppose we could try the ammo truck idea if we get desperate enough. Though there are far less ... objectionable ways of opening a door.

This game looks super complicated with all of the unit enlistment, weapons, and etc. Let's give the Gmail a break in this part so he can churn things out quicker.

Yes, check the units in the OP, all of them have the "Experience-Green" trait. Adwarf also mentioned it when asked about the militia.

Experience is in fact tracked, there are about six different levels of it one of which (militia) is a permanent status.

Okay. That makes sense then if units that get wiped out lose their EXP.

Maybe we should add a standing order that when a unit is cut to 10% strength 1 man is to be pulled out and leave the battle? That 1 man can then be the officer to rebuild that unit around and with his experience he can train the new men so they do not enter the first fight as green recruits.

It was a fairly common tactic in the past to take a couple of veterans and build units around them so the veteran could pass on his experience to the new unit so every successive unit created would be a little bit better then the one it's founder came from.

On top of the morale bonus that came from the new units pride in it's predecessor units achievements and it's desire to both honor that unit and to surpass it.

Well, they would technically still be green recruits, as they are recruits, and haven't experienced combat. The advantage they have is a veteran giving his knowledge, which is... Well, pretty much a given. It's always happened in military units. Besides, all lost units are replaced with recruits anyways, so I doubt we have to think that far into it.
