Why would our untrained peasants know what was an ore and what wasn't? They wouldn't have a clue if a lump of magnetite hit them in the face.
Also my point. Other reasons we shouldn't start mining.

1. We have ten people.
2. None of them knows anything about mining.
3. We only have TEN PEOPLE.

didn't see that text...Maybe we can just try to get them started on a plantation for rice somewhere? Fish tastes better with rice and we can put out a poster for a geologist later  :).

A problem with that is they probably don't know how to farm rice.

Fundamentally, we need more people.

It's more profitable to smelt ores before selling them, true, but we could sell the raw product. Once again, though, we don't have enough people to produce worthwhile amounts of material.

Maybe we should wait til we get back to the village before we make plans on how to make it better.

We don't have much of anything but a shanty town tbh..maybe an inn? will have rooms for traders to sleep in and charge for a night, this way the peasants don't need to have any REAL skill.

That is an interesting thought, but also comes with a few others. Unless humans really are the pinnacle of creation, some alien strains actually could be better than them. Which the pureblood humans most probably could not tolerate. I actually would reason that any race that sports a superiority to man, would be wiped out by them...



Back to the suggestion game, I think cultivating an easy crop like potatoes should be our first priority. You make a furrow. You lay the potatoes inside of it. You make a mound over it. You wait untill harvest. That easy.

No, really. Given the earth is soft / workable enough or you have an animal, a man can plant enough of it in one day to last himself for a year. True, the harvest will take a week or so, but still. Nothing beats potatoes in terms of time and merit.

So while rice is a good deal in terms of shelf life, it is also one of the more care-intensive field fruits.

Most questions about aliens will be revealed throughout the game, but the introduction of the caste system was a precaution in case it happened again.

I actually am somewhat against asking lord camden. He just might report back on our progress, and asking such things could lesser our standing. Either way - like he said - he can't help us out with material goods anyways. Still, asking around the market in his city is another matter. Should that be unsuccessful, asking around at the places where we will stay while traveling is also an idea worth considering. Or just asking our chancellor. He seems capable enough. So... in that order, I guess?

I agree we need to find a way to better our standing and improve our hold with out to much help from others.

Year 1, May
You decide to look around for potatoes, or at least the equivalent in this planet. You tell your steward of potatoes, and he directs you to the nearest stall, selling some potatoes for sale. You purchase some, at a discount thanks to your steward, and decide to head back. The travelling is just as rough as last time, accompanied by more retching. You decide that travelling by boat isn't for you, ironic since you own a fishing village.

Meanwhile, you had In's start the clay industry. With his orders, the town managed to gather a good amount of clay. They were bad at shaping it at the start, but they've gotten better over the month. They've had to use the smoking house as a makeshift kiln, but the goods came out okay. Now you have a number of average clay goods. In's tells you there is plenty more clay in the river, and if the villagers who fashioned the clay stayed at it full-time, they'd be quite good at it.

Returning to your village, you are surprised to see your villagers waiting expectantly at the river. They seem happy to see you, and the village seems somewhat less run down. You ask your steward if anything happened. He tells you they're just appreciating the fact that you didn't force them to take down their houses and build a statue dedicated to yourself the moment you got here. Anywho, you show your villagers the potatoes.

They've heard of potatoes, but never eaten them, let alone grow them. You show them how to furrow the fields and plant the crops. Some seem reluctant at first, but will do as they're told. They get the field started first, then plant the potatoes.

This. We should also have 2 people do pottery full-time. Three can be dedicated to expanding the field a bit more when possible, and tending to it. The rest should remain fishing, unless we have other things to work on.
