On top of that, ask Toel'ix what kind of tithe our lord expects.

At this point clay pots is all we can give..

Also yes to the traders bargain BUT he can only have shares for 2 years with promise that if he runs the excavations well then we'll extend the contract longer. We need results.

Oh yeah and offer a reward to whoever kills w.e is in the water, things could get messy.

Oh an have someone destroys the potatoes via tossing them in the river, can't let those pesky insects get into our new shanties.

+1. But burn the potatoes don't get the parasites in the river.

They drown or get eaten by fish, what else could happen?

If we can burn them then yes +1 to burning our parasitic potatoes.

Better to be safe than sorry.

Year 1, July
It's getting incredibly hot now. People spend all the time they can in the river, but as close to the shore as they can. You tell Toel'ix to create a deed to give to In's. He heads off to recruit miners to the village. Unfortunately, he hasn't found anyone to do it without having proof that there is warchalite. You could do it yourself, if In's bought some picks on the way back.

You give a reward to anyone who kills the beast in the water. A group of them, including the villager who was crippled, manage to capture the creature, spearing it and putting it in a net, pouring water over it from the river.. It is a huge beast, half your height, and the length of six men. It has three rows of powerful fins and teeth the size of daggers. The townsfolk gasp at the sight of it. They believe it to be the harbinger of their death god. Toel'ix tells you that this creature was thought extinct, and isn't naturally found in this planet.

It is incredibly rare, but extremely dangerous. They travel with their mates, so there might be more lurking below, but since they're extinct and not even from Torus that's unlikely. They've been known to attack ships in large numbers, sinking them and consuming the sailors. They can also wipe fish ecosystems completely.

Keeping the creature heavily chained with the villagers taking turns pouring water on it, you move on to the potatoes. You decide to have them burned, to kill the parasites. It goes without a hitch. The matter of keeping the beast, known as Lok'hum by the natives, roughly translating to Spiteful Eel, is still at hand. You could keep it alive and sell it or showcase it, but some villagers say that you should kill it. Their death god would be displeased with his beast in chains. Toel'ix assures you that those are just folktales.

We should keep it we could build a pond to keep it in. Also we should search for another one hopefully we can get a breeding pair and domesticate the species.

Is it extinct on this planet, or is it thought to be extinct as a whole? How universal is that death god and folktale?

If it is only extinct here, we really could make it a pond, and market it as an object of worship. Build - over time - a shrine around it, and let peasants come from afar to appease the god with a sacrifice to his harbringer. Bonus - we will be known far and wide quickly in the lowborn circles.

If it is extinct universally, I say we send a message to Lord Camden. We obviously lack the channels to sell such a beast, but if he would - and since the prince placed us under his care, I would think this Lord to be very connected - er.. if he would sell the beast for us, we give him an honest 50% cut. Well... maybe honest - I think we should include if he thinks that a 50% cut of the deal would be an honest affair to both of us. Right, that should do.

The heck with that noise let's keep it in a pond..an also chained because honestly there's no telling what this creature can do on the loose.

So basically split the villagers into making a makeshift pawn/failing pond making they should keep it alive via trowing water on it, fishing for food, and more pot making. Also ask the feasibility of using clay to build a small guest house for future miners?

I know it was done in the ancient world but i don't want to overwork the lowborn.

Do note that this beast is referred to as a spiteful eel. Assuming it also has some biological relations (it might), it probably can survive on land, provided it is kept wet. If so, it's not going to stay in a pond unless you pin it down.

Year 1, August
You consider building a pond for the eel and get it's mate to breed with it, but none of the villagers will go near it, except to throw water on it. You could kill it and put it's bones on display, but you realize it's more lucrative to sell it. As the beast is extinct nearly everywhere, and isn't even from this planet, you could get Lord Camden to sell it for you for 50% of the cut. You send a messenger, and it is replied quickly. He agrees, as long as he gets to see the beast first.

He arrives, taking great fascination at the beast. He seems transfixed by it, not even bothered by the mud ruining his expensive cloak. He says he'll get on finding it immediately, and he strides off, returning back to his lands.

The villagers carry on fishing and making pots. Two of them you make full time pot makers. There pots are less than average, and have not improved since last time, but they assure you that they will try their hardest. The fishing goes particularly well. With the beast gone the fish have returned, and the catch is great. They will be able to feed the village for at least two or three months if the fish is smoked, and can be sold at the market to passing traders. There has been no sign of any other eels though.

By the end of the month, a messenger arrives from Lord Camden. It reads: Dear Lady Harkonnen, I have some offers for the beast that may please you, but I have a counter offer. I will purchase the beast directly from you. All the funds will be delivered at once directlyto your holds. I will pay more than the other offers. I will also give you a personal cybervant, a cyborganic slave capable of great feats. If you accept, dear lady.

From House Camden."

Let's ask the Steward about the "cybervent". If anything i doubt we can't really sell it to ANYONE else since he won't tell.

We should probably also ask what "feats" the servant can do?
