Misleading Summaries
« on: April 15, 2014, 10:12:21 am »

The title is the only place in this thread where something is exactly what it sounds like.

Summarize things:
1. In ways which are technically accurate but misleading.
2. Which are fictional works. No real-life stuff, we don't need to go down the path that leads to.
3. With whatever length is necessary, a few words to a few paragraphs.
4. With the name of the work at the end, in color=transparent code if you want to save the punchline.

I'll lead off.

Two young men go on a journey of mutual self-discovery. They and their friends get roped into a roadtrip with a bunch of older men, but after putting up with the wacky adventures for a while--the guy who was supposed to be in charge got into a fight with this crazy dude on a bridge and fell off--they steal a boat and leave. There's only the two of them at that point, but this creep that's been stalking one of them for weeks keeps showing up. Eventually they make it to their destination, a really exotic place full of big game and gruff natives. It's a long hike, but they climb this big mountain together, and at the top one carries the other over the threshold into a chamber. At that point the other one pulls out a ring, and the two start to argue about what they're going to do. The stalker shows up again and accidentally saves their relationship. After that, they leave and spend some time lying around on a little island--the whole scene is really hot. They didn't plan on leaving for a while, but one of their older friends called in some favors to get them a free flight out, so they go along. That's when Aragorn is crowned as the king of Gondor and the hobbits go home. The Lord of the Rings

The son of a tyrannical god-being with an odd sense of fashion is sent to Earth in order to repair the damages cause by a late night drunken rampage. The son does so by stealing the worldly possessions of mankind and sticking them onto an indestructible orb; size specified by the god-being. But the son is not alone! He is joined by all of his strange cousins, including a girl who's brain is split in half, a nudist, a cyborg, and a girl whose head is filled with soup.No matter what the size of the orb is, the son is able to manipulate it with ease. Failure to reach the required size results in the god-violently destroying the contents fused to the orb. Success results in the orb being thrown into the cold vacuum of space. As the story progresses, dozens of animals and even humans are forced onto the orb and ejected into space. Katamari Damacy

A man with excessive amounts of jewelry tries to bring enlightenment and clothing to a nation of men in loincloths. But despite sending many of his employees to persuade them, the savages repeatedly kill them. Finally, Jewelry man decides to go himself, bringing a large group of his men wth him. In order to make it easier, he persuades some of the savages' holymen to forbid preventing his entry of the land. However, a small handful of the cold-resistent barbarians decides to block his way in a narrow pass anyway, killing many of his followers. He even talks personally with the leader of the upstarts, but to no avail. Eventually, he is able to defeat the defenders when one of their own shows them a secret path around the defence.

Aided by a snarky gothic clown-man who loves fruit, a highly intelligent Japanese college student changes the world by writing in a book. The police of the world try to stop him by relying on a shaggy looking man with poor social skills and an addiction to candy. When the shaggy man eventually dies of an ill timed heart attack, the police rely on a kid who's way to focused on toys. Death Note

This is the tale of a small-town sheriff. His primary concerns are making sure the town's cast of quirky characters stay out of trouble and trying to impress his girlfriend, a local rancher. But one day, out of the blue, a big-city man claiming to be an astronaut shows up and quickly impresses the small-town bumpkins. The sheriff doesn't buy it, and what starts as a relatively light-hearted rivalry between them quickly grows dark when the sheriff attempts to murder the astronaut by shoving him off a high ledge. The sheriff, narrowly escaping a lynching, flees the town and comes across the battered, but still alive, astronaut. The two fight and argue before being captured by a sadist with a passion for torture. While in his lair, the big-city man discovers that he never actually was an astronaut, and the sheriff realizes that he let his jealousy get the best of him. By rallying the sadist's previous victims, the two manage to defeat him and become fire-forged friends. The two barely avoid getting blown to smithereens and return home in time for Christmas. You were planning to have a 15 year old magical girl kill Witches by drinking them under the table!? It's original, at least.
