Year 2, FebruaryYou spent most of your first month training as an apprentice to Blacksmith Walder. It wasn't easy, but at least you didn't hurt yourself. Most of the time. Walder is gruff, rude, and thick-headed, but he makes the best metal anywhere. He's even surpassed the High Smiths of the North when one of them visited your old village to help your lord. A wonder what he's doing working for a minor lord. You know how to prepare the ore and work the blast furnaces, but you're not allowed near the hammer yet.
Working in the forge has worn you out, but you're in better shape. Your hands are callused, your face always sweating, and your arms aching like never before, but at least you feel healthier. You try to spend as much time with the lord's children when they come around. The lord is generally fine with it, since there aren't any other children in the keep other than Ser Aissel's page, but he's always off somewhere helping the knight. Isbel is somewhat of a tomboy, much to the dismay of her lady mother, which she attributes to not having any other girls to play with. Cassius has too much energy; arguing with the older servants, vandalizing property, and tipping over the livestock. For boys at the age of 15, that's what they generally do.
You don't know where to find a host for the new Queen. Apparently, once she matures she'll remember everything. Mostly. Their memories are passed down through their DNA. At least, that's what the dreams told you. A human maybe. A criminal on death row? No one would miss them. But how would you get them? You consider all the possibilities. What seems likely is putting it in a cow or something. As long as they don't kill the cow within a period of 5 months it'll be fine.
You try to learn how to fight from Ser Aissel. You don't have time to actually ask, but you seem him practicing in the courtyard while you're in the smithy. You try to remember what he was doing, then practice at knight with a long branch you found. You did this for a couple of weeks until Ser Aissel's page found you. You thought he was going to tell on you, but instead he gave you an actual wooden sword. He told you to keep it hidden, otherwise they might punish him. His name is Rodrick, nephew of another lord. The wooden sword is heavier than an actual sword, but it is to train your strength. The first few nights you could barely lift it, let alone swing it, but you're getting stronger.
