The guy has a blunderbuss! It's basically a shotgun! We have a mini knife!

I suggest we just go away. I'd rather not be reduced to bloody mist.
Why don't we go find a better house that doesn't require stabbing someone in front of our new sort-of-friend, potentially dragging in these creatures with the scent of blood?

Maybe start crying that'll tug on his heart strings, maybe. Maybe say something to the degree of I'm only a kid, have mercy, you wouldn't really shoot me?

He doesn't seem the sympathetic sort.

Well you gotta soften him up, make him realize he just threatened to kill children, make him think, damn this world isn't that black and white, I imagine killing someone is terrible on your conscience. Place your feet in the man's shoes. He just wants to survive, he doesn't want to kill children. How would you react in the situation? Only a psychopath wouldn't feel remorse and a desire to help.

It's super unlikely that he's going to be reasonable enough long enough for you to get that through to him.

I still think he's faking and that blunderbuss isn't armed. Is he a survivalist type, or just a regular recluse? If its the latter then chances are he didn't actually have the foresight to keep a blunderbuss in working condition, with ammo, and properly kept powder. Y'know. Just in case of a bug apocalypse. >.>

And in either case it seems like the kind of thing you'd point at someone when you don't have a real weapon lying around. Only an eccentric would have a working blunderbuss. And he doesn't seem eccentric, just selfish.

Well, the past "incident" that was referred to suggests that either he's the kind of person who sets stray cats on fire, or he thinks we are (possibly with good reason). Either way, I don't think pressing the issue here is a good idea.
