Lord Name: Paulus Severus
Lord Type: Military

School Name: Aeterne Glorificae (translates to "Eternal Glory")

Personal History: Paulus enlisted in the Army at the young age of sixteen, and lost his best friend Gaius at nineteen, at the battle of Bloody Woods. Hardened by the loss, and vowing to never experience the feeling of loss again - by never becoming close to anyone ever again - he quickly rose through the ranks due to his survivability and fighting skills. Retiring at thirty-five at the rank of Primus Pilus, the civilian life was never good for Paulus. After killing a peasant whose donkey shit on his foot, Paulus was fined, and lost much of his funds. Looking for a good source of revenue, he found the sign up for Gladiator Schools, and decided to create his own.

School History: Relatively new to the arena scene, Paulus is looking for an entertaining way to spend his hard-won money and slaves. Deciding to open a Gladiator school to help keep his skills sharp in training the contestants, and continue the feel of military life.

 Week 2 Start

In an odd turn of events the number of Hollows and Possessed are currently down in the league. What reason is there for this? We spoke to Maurice, the Emperor's Father in Law, who said "IT WAS A BEAST! A HORRIBLE MONSTROUS BEAST!". This reporter also remembers last week when an entire team of possessed, hollows, and ghosts were taken down by a Greater Beast. Quite the spectacle, truly the Emperor's Father in Law has excellent taste in gladiatorial matches.

You had actually gone out of your way to avoid Jig today. He’d grown much larger and far more vicious… Surely a walk among your adoring fans would cheer you up though right?

Unfortunately it turns out you didn’t really have any. Some people remembered the match, a great many more knew about Jig. But none knew about your school…

Still… The hefty wait of your coin purse was more than enough to keep you from slipping into an endless spiral of depression. Though… Some man named Keynes had donated some money to your school saying it was for “A spectacular performance.” Hm… Maybe this Keynes was a fan of amateur gladiators?

Returning to your home you’re somewhat shocked at the news that nobody has challenged you! Well… That’s unfortunate but understandable. Most schools of your caliber don’t have such high power gladiators as a hobgoblin… Looks like you’ll have to send out a challenge yourself if you want to have Jig fight this week.

Bucky seems to have healed rather nicely. Still not up to full strength… or even half strength, but still he’s not doing too bad. “I appear to have put on weight.” You imagine him saying as you look at his new girth gleefully. You don’t know why, but large creatures have always appealed to you. You saw a hill giant bat a tenderfoot sixteen feet straight up into the air once. It was a fond memory if you ever had one. Hopefully the tales of Fat Imps were true.

“Pardon me master.” One of the Arena Runner interrupts your thoughts.

“Yes?”

“Message for you sir.” The Arena Runner handed you a small scroll.

After reading it you felt somewhat worried. You’d been challenged by an upper level school: “The Clan of Mighty Valkyrie”. Thankfully it was just two peasants and not their star players… Bucky might be able to survive that… It wasn’t out of the question but… You don’t know, if it’s worth the risk.  He very well could just die on the spot instead depending on how well trained the peasants were…

It’s amazing what some decent weapons and armor can do to make you like a guy. Leon was still boring as a brick but he was at least looking far more dangerous.

Oh, and you hated his voice… and his attitude… and his mutton-chops… and pretty much everything about him. “Well we’ve been challenged by Caeser’s Celestial Republic. You fighting a peasant and a acolyte.”

“I think I could swing it.”

“Maybe… It’d be a close one though if I’m honest. You know how those healers are. Still… I’ll consider it.”

How do you keep getting so lucky with your gladiators? Frankly… Well Frankly Frankly is just as appreciable as Ugly Jerry to the team’s growth. Sure, he seems a little thin skinned but you doubt that’ll hold him back much. You just hope he was worth the price of hiring. It was rather… Hefty for your current financial standing.

Even better though is that Ugly Jerry has made a full recovery! He says that he’s just a quick healer but you also notice that your coin purse is missing a few pieces of gold. You don’t begrudge him that though, he earned it. After all, Frankly confessed that he only offered his services to you after he saw how well you turned Ugly Jerry from a mere peasant into a real force to be reckoned with. Mostly…

Still, you don’t have much time to mull that over. After all you have to think about challenging someone. Nobody has sent you a challenge yet… One might show up later, or you could always request a match. Hm… Options, options, options… Also… You should really go see that Tenderfoot again. See if he doesn’t have any potions for you to purchase.

John didn’t seem to be doing so well… In fact he seemed to be in incredible pain. Definitely not going to cut it in a match. A sad truth… You could always pay a cleric to heal him but that would cut into funds… Still, you liked John and he needed to be in top condition for the match against The Evasive Graverobbers’ gladiator, who you’ve been led to believe is a Goblin Archer.

You’re still not sure if you wanted to accept the match though… You’ve heard nasty things about Goblin Archers. Still… You’ll have to keep it in mind.

‘Wow… This is expensive!’ You think to yourself as you examine your finances. You’re not losing much money but losing money you are… Maybe you should look into alternate ways of getting money. “Especially if Wernher keeps losing…” You mused aloud to yourself as you glanced towards Wernher. He certainly seemed to have thrown himself into his training, but this didn’t change the fact that he had lost. Not a good thing to do on your first match.

Though an interesting thing had happened. You had been contacted by two different school. The Steel Shellfish [ironically enough] and The Bloody Mage. They wanted a sort of tag match it appeared. The Shellfish had seen Wernher’s fight and thought he would be a decent enough replacement for their own peasant who had been ‘indisposed’.

You didn’t pry too much but the request piqued your interest. If you loaned the Steel Shellfish Wernher they would pay your school 20 gold as well as any clerical expenses as a result of the match. Obviously though, you wouldn’t get a payout if they won and your school’s involvement would be kept under wraps meaning that you wouldn’t gain any fame from it.

You’d have to think about it…. After all no one had challenged you yet so… You could either send out a challenge or just accept this offer.
 

So same idea as last time.

For those of you who want to issue your own challenge you can either request a specific type of match [“I want to fight ___”] or a level of difficulty [Hard challenge]. Keep in mind that other schools can turn you down so you might just have to accept a slightly different challenge than you wanted.

Also, Ozarck, don’t worry about that Thin Skinned thing. It only takes away armor if you have any to start with. So for number purposes you have -5 armor, but you won’t take extra damage since 0 Armor is the minimum.

Furthermore all waitlisters have been granted +50gp.

look for an animal training school to fight, preferably average-hard in strength range. Visit the tenderfoot and peruse potions. (what are the levels of difficulty? have you a roster of low level schools with 2-3 gladiators, besides the player schools?) If there is time for training, spend enough to boost Ugly to the next level (3xp shouldn't be hard to come by).
