Waiting on MyOwnWorstEnemy to put in her turn thing...

Keep in mind that you need to state that you're hyping the match in the second half of preperation [Basically, once I announce the matches that are running.]

Ozarck, your money has been spent. 25 of it anyways...

Accept the challenge.

While waiting for the match, give John a few tips on battle techniques to help him in his first fight.

Accept challenge. Attempt to hire the alchemist to make various battle poisons, sleep toxins, aerosols and the like for my champion (keep the discussion focused on the legal aspect, but allow hints of other opportunities as well.

"So, is there any way you can assist my gladiator in the arena this week?"

"Hm... What's your school's name?" The Tenderfoot looked down at a large stack of papers.

"Pretty's Finishing School."

"Hm..." The Tenderfoot spent several moments leafing through the papers before saying "No."

You're somewhat surprised by the outright statement "Why not?"

"Because, you're not on the list. See? Win a few fights, get put on the list, then I'll be happy to help you. Hell, win a few more fights I'd be willing to join your school. Been wanting to get into the business myself all things considered."

"So... You wouldn't help me if I offered you a position right now?"

"No." The Tenderfoot shook his head "If I gave you a potion right now, the officials would wonder where it came from? Potions are easier to track than I'd like with those damn diviners around." The Tenderfoot made an odd noise between a retch and a cough "Plus I don't think you want me around. I'm no good in a direct fight. But... Put me onto your team when you have some burly chaps who can hit hard around and I'll make sure they hit even harder or your money back guaranteed."

"Hm..." It would be nice to have an alchemist on your team... Well a tenderfoot, you get the idea that he's not quite alchemist material yet but... You'd have to consider it for whenever you get around to winning a few fights. "Maybe. What can you make anyways?"

"Oh this and that. Defensive Potions, health potions, a few life potions, Firebrand Potions are a personal favorite of mine to make. I've also got some things that are a little less than approved of. If you know what I mean."

"Poisons?" How convenient, you were just about to bring that up.

"What? No no no no. That'd be illegal you know? But, sometimes these potions have awful side effects. I mean, IF one of your gladiators happened to drop some of it on their weapon and IF the opponent happened to posses no immunity to such a thing and IF the opponent started to feel sick well... We can't stop fate can we?"

"Of course not."

"I mean, who are we to meddle in the affairs of those human gods of yours? Heheheh."

"Well, since I can't buy from you I suppose our business is concluded for now?"

"I'm afraid so. But getting on these lists are more of a formality than anything else. A fight or two at most and I'll be handing you whatever you need."

You left the Tenderfoot's shop with a small smile on your face. While you may not have gotten what you wanted right away you knew how to play the long con. Things would be looking up for you in no time.

Week 1 Preperation 2/2

Quote from: The Imperial Horseman
This weeks gladiatorial games are looking quite interesting with The Silver Corpses pitted against their long time rivals the The Plague Hammer. It promises to be a very interesting week, furthermore, due to the large amount of new schools. Who knows how many will stick around, though it doesn't matter much in the long run.

In other news a mysterious rash of break-ins have been reported. No word on the culprit being found so far.

Quote from: The Gambling Tables
The Brest-Matar Training Arena vs The Red League
Goblin vs Goblin
2:1 / 2:1 [Amount < 50]

The Dickus School of Fighting vs The Blue Skyline
Imp vs Peasant
2:1 / 4:1 [Amount < 50]

The Copper Colossal vs The Green Gardens
Peasant vs Peasant
2:1 / 2:1

Pretty's Finishing School vs The Orange Sun
Peasant vs Goblin
3:1 / 2:1 [Amount < 50]

The School of Silverbane vs The Onyx Gargoyle
Peasant vs Peasant
2:1 / 2:1 [Amount < 50]

The Brotherband vs The Purple Shellfish
Peasant vs Imp
4:1 / 2:1 [Amount < 50]

The Silver Corpses vs The Plague Hammer
2:1 / 4:1 [Amount < 200]

The Saphire Republic vs The Iron Shellfish
3:1 / 2:1 [Amount < 100]

Just so you know the gambling table is showing how much money you earn (Left) if you bet (right) on that team. So a 3:1 would mean you get 3 gold if you bet 1. You earn a total of 2 though, so don't get too excited. Yep, so now you can Hype your match, to increase the fame gain somewhat OR you can do basically anything else. Keep in mind that gaining fame is easier at lower levels because no one has heard of you.

So yeah, send in your battle orders [the other teams orders are already in] and then say you're Ready and your matches will proceed.

Put four gold on Pretty's and spend ten gold on hype.

Bucky will avoid getting into a straight fight and instead use hit and run tactics due to his kinds skill at annoying.

Are we allowed to bet on both sides of a match?

Kinda defeats the purpose yes? So, no. For now you are not. BUT you may bet on as many fights as you want.

Four on Dickus, four on Plague Hammer, Ugly Jerry is to Attack. Ten on Hype for Ugly's match.

I was worried at first that your name was going to turn this thread into a bunch of monty python jokes. Now I'm at ease knowing that's not the case.

I mostly chose it in reference to another game with a focus on fighting and romans.

Not really, actually; I would only bet on the matches in which one side was 4:1 or 3:1; by betting an equal amount on either side, I either gain money or lose nothing.

Spoiler: Battle Plans (click to show/hide)

I'll place a bet of 5 gold apiece on: The Dickus School of Fighting vs. The Blue Skyline,
Pretty's Finishing School vs. The Orange Sun,
The Brotherband vs. The Purple Shellfish,
The Silver Corpses vs. The Plague Hammer, and
The Saphire Republic vs. The Iron Shellfish.

Then I will spend 20 gold on hype.

I have a gambling problem...

Alrighty then. Yeah, defending at this juncture is pretty lame... As I said, you guys should be getting more gladiator positions soon. Like... After your first fight soon. Assuming all goes well.

Well, as-is, against an equal opponent(oh god please don't let NPCs get personality traits rolled for their gladiators that could help them), you have a 50-50 chance of winning, period. Usually coming down to who missed a swing or who took initiative in the last round. At this point, just luck. Which I'm actually okay with, since eventually it won't be. As much, at least.

EDIT: On another note, I have a question. Is it possible to gain fame if you lose in a spectacularly crowd-pleasing way? And also, how fast is the power-curve do you think? I mean, for how long would 'Blacksmith' as a Lord have made a difference? At this level, of course, it's a huge deal, with how little damage everyone does, but since it's not anything like +10% armor, it's a little weaker.

Armor only negates damage from Weapon sources, right?
