There you go!

GoG games have no DRM. Period. So you could just send the game to whoever and they could play it for basically free. Of course, this has Issues (TM).

Ooh, they finally managed to get Alien Crossfire.  When they first added it, they were having a dog's time of trying to get distribution rights for the expansion pack.

Say, Guardsman, remember what I said about what happens when polls close? You don't get them back. Ever. Just a warning.

We're going to be the cyborgs, dealing with Spartans, Morganites, zealots, Stepdaughters, Pirates, and one of the other non-Data-Angels factions.

Are the Free Drones worth playing?

In 4x games you almost never EVER want to play the faction with research penalties, mostly because technological supremacy is king...

Mind you I doubt it is as bad as Master of Orion's research penalty versus research bonus where having the penalty was an ungodly disadvantage (Essentially you couldn't chose what you research) and where the research bonus was an ungodly advantage (You research... everything at once).

Ok this is ignoring a "The challenge" sort of idea. Which to admit was sort of the thing with Masters of Orion.

Usually you don't, but both of the factions with research penalties are damn good at popping out tons of units. And Miriam gets a very significant offense bonus.

The Believers are one of the best factions and have by far the worst research penalty - it's definitely an issue, but it's an issue that can be trumped by other factors. Research is a lot easier from behind, and these groups may be bad at research but are generally good both at keeping equal with most of the field, and being more powerful when facing an equal tech (or even slightly ahead tech) opponent.

There are a lot more ways to get tech than research, basically (especially if capturing tech when capturing cities is enabled).

Thanks GlyphGryph. It is rare to see a game like this that actually makes research penalties existent while also making your other advantages tangible.

It's pseudo-democracy like this that makes you want to kill your enemies and install a prophet as supreme overlord of mankind.

The Believers are one of the best factions and have by far the worst research penalty - it's definitely an issue, but it's an issue that can be trumped by other factors. As an aside, yep to all points. The Free Drones have the absolute best industry of all factions - NO ONE CAN OUTPRODUCE THEM! The Believers on the other hand have their neat +25% attack bonus, meaning they are unstoppable at a tech parity and equal at a tech disadvantage. Drones can support gigantic armies or amass brilliant infrastructure with a speed of which no faction can match, and Believers can amass momentum that if unchecked just rolls over entire factions. That said, whereas Drones can become a superpower even when isolated, Believers usually shrivel up and stagnate if they can't expand anywhere - whether by colony pod or soldier.
