So I hadn't even heard of this until I caught this stream of the alpha while I was eating dinner.  You appear to be an apprentice mage called Cadence who is determined to raid the necrodancer's crypt and find out his secrets.  Unfortunately while digging into the crypt, she falls through the ceiling of it and bashes her head on a rock killing her.  The necrodancer revives her, placing a beat into her heart before leaving.

All actions and movements have to sync with the rhythm, same goes with your enemies.  Each zone and level has its own song and beat to it.(Done by Danny B, the Super Meat Boy and Binding of Isaac soundtrack guy)  Staying in the beat and killing enemies will provide you with a groove bonus causing beneficial effects, bonus to gold collection, and providing a sick floor lightshow.  Missing the beat will remove your buffs, gold bonus, and the lightshow(But enemies will still move, so do be careful).  Each enemy has its own dance style.  Skeletons for example will throw their hands up and wave em about for 1 beat and then move forward the next(Attacking if you're in the way).  Whilst golems groove on their tile for 2 beats, prepare on the third, and dive forward on the fourth.

There are a bunch of items you can find to help you.  You start with a dagger and a shovel(You can dig through dirt walls with it, sometimes uncovering hidden rooms) but can find other helpful items, armor, and weapons on your journey through a zone.  Theres a shopkeeper each floor that will sell things to you as well(And sings along with the current song playing while you're near him)  Floor 4 of each zone holds the boss of the floor.  The boss I saw was a chessboard with chess pieces that moved to the beat(Pawns were trying to get to the other side to promote to queens, knights were doing their l jumps, etc)

Heres a couple examples of the game's music so far

There's going to be early access on the 30th of April for people that preordered, but there's no official release date as of yet.

Oh ho ho, but don't try to return the shoes, because they won't take them back once you've worn them.

I'd be utter garbage at the game itself, but I'm half-tempted to buy it just to die over and over listening to the soundtrack. Because damn.

And then, they will be weaponized. Like everything in this game, from kittens to babies, everything is a potential device of murder.
So if baseless speculation is all we have, we might as well treat it like fact.

Well mashing genres is not new. It's the effects of it that are new. Rougelikes are not really my thing but i wonder how it turns out.

And to think i joked in my head "one day they'll shove DDR crap into every game", seems i was right and wrong, they did added DDR to roguelikes and it looks great!

Was expecting something more fast-paced. Something like Gabberhouse. I would buy if you made a stage/level/entire gametrack with this.

Do want. Judging by the trailer on their site, it seems we'll be able to use our own mp3 files on it as well.

You can use a DDR mat, so the control scheme must be really simplistic. How do you joggle several items in time with the beat when all you've got is up-down-left-right-start-select?

Items and spells are cast by moving in a specific pattern. For example; a spell is cast by moving down then left, so move down and left to cast it. Spells are infinite but have a cooldown time.

I've actually had my eye on this one for a while, and yes, the soundtrack is fantastic. This has got to be one of the coolest roguelikes I've ever seen.

It was on preorder for a while, but there's currently no way to buy it at the moment.  Early access is going out for people that preordered on April 30th, hopefully it'll coincide with a steam early-access sale too.(I hear the alpha version is actually played through steam, so I wouldn't be surprised if it does)

Alpha Access just went out to preorders yesterday.  I've been playing it a bit, and it's quite challenging.  In a good way though, every time you get hit it's your own fault.  And I've never had a situation where I've felt I had no choice but to take damage on a floor(Unlike Binding of Isaac).  It's actually quite well polished for an alpha too.  It does start to show in Zone 4, from what I've seen, but Zones 1-3 are quite well done.

As a bit of a teaser, here's the theme song of one of the game's possible bosses, King Conga
