Fixing vanilla DF
« on: April 11, 2014, 04:50:25 am »

I want to make a current vanilla version of DF with all current bugfixes and this is pretty confusing.

Is there a list of current bug fixes not included in DFHack and where to get them? Any reason why they are not included or linked?

Why is there a r4 in DFFD, that states "see thread". I found the post in the DFHack thread on page 320. Any reason this is not in the first post?

http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=6741 These fixes are already included in DFHack r4?

The Wiki says on  http://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/DF2012:Known_bugs_and_issues
Quote
Solution: apply growthbug plugin for that comes with DFHack (as of r4).
When i search the DFHack r4 folder, there is no growthbug script/dll. The wiki links a thread which links a thread which quotes code. And i know there are several scripts for this, but which is the most recent and is there any reason it shouldn't be posted on the wiki or be included in DFHack?

Also in the wiki:
Quote
Bug:2712 Weapons, especially whips, cut through steel armor like butter. Crossbows firing metal bolts routinely pierce masterwork steel armor, and, counter-intuitively, whips cleave through it in combat.

Solution: appropriate modding to nerf these weapons
In the linked thread are at least three solutions, is there more knowledge 2 years later of an adequate balance fix? And is there anything about whips which aren't even mentioned in the thread?

Is the exe from here http://www.ntcore.com/4gb_patch.php legit? It is linked in the mentioned Wiki thread. Isn't there Large Adress Aware doing the same thing? The latter seems far more widespread and tested.

Just get Modest Mod.

Modest Mod has a lot of flavour and content changes. The changes to whips might be interesting though.

Modest mod has no flavor changes or content changes that I am aware of. Its specifically designed to be what you aim to do.

It even has a section for content changes http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=105871.0
Some of the bugfixes and balance changes are tweaks not fixes like less clothing, elf patrols and faster learning.

For starters I would use LNP as it has certain binary patches applied.
Then if I wouldn't want to use modest mod I would simply use modest mods change-log as a guide. In there you should find those things you want to change and you can ignore all the others.

Go to the bug tracker page: http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/mantisbt/view_all_bug_page.php

Search using a filter for bugs tagged with "binary patch"

The LNP is nice and all but there are several reasons i'd like to play without it.
