It's even possible that people from the lower boards might post in the upper boards once or twice.
Now THAT sounds too absurd, sorry.
You're missing his joke. :P He's from the lower boards.
As long as no one digs through the adamantine into Forum Games & Roleplaying, we should be safe.

I imagine a lot of SCIENCE will be on hold until DFHack gets properly updated. Also, at least four of said Day 1 science threads will be started by Urist Da Vinci.

Not really, you could test out the combat stuff in the arena without DFhack for example.

I hope the Mayday tileset gets updated quickly.

Wait, nobody has yet?! How did I get out?!!

The day it comes out, everyone that plays will vanish. Also, there will be a slew of "Woo! New release!" comments.

I just hope the update comes after the semester is over. I don't think my grades could take the hit.

Mod forum will explode; A rash of people wanting updated versions of therapist and dfhack will hang like a cloying odor.

Therapist, seriously, i cant play without it. I think ill just go adventure until its updated.

That's my plan.
And it's a good one because when I play DF I only play Adventure Mode anyway (or Arena/Legends), but now I'll have a reason to check the Fort mode out now.

Historically?

The servers may or may not go down.  It has happened either way.  If I recall correctly the server has handled better for the last release than previous.  So I'm guessing they will stay up.

The game will almost certainly be horribly bugged.  I can't think of a single major release that did not have a major game breaking bug on day 1.  Toady however is very good at fixing it within a day.

There will be many posts in threads like DFHack asking for when it will be updated to the new version.  That will take a few days, many will refuse to play until it is functioning.

Many many DF related posts in the How did you last own/die threads.  Many many new posts in the what's going on in your fort and message to your dorfs threads.

Fortress players will be angry about everything, particularly with the “lack of new features” (despite having multi-tile trees, possibly 3D veins, and all the new plants and special sites). Adventure mode players will get angry about dying in new ways, despite the new sites and evolution of the world.

Yeah I tend to agree with this. In some ways it's making me even not look forward to the next update. Then again I've always been critical of Toady's development strategy and priorities.

hopefully the game will be updated on a more frequent basis from now on though.

History says otherwise. The pattern is to have a major release followed by a period of some activity before going dark again. There will generally be some loose threads that aren't trimmed once the dark period begins, and your enjoyment of that major iteration of DF will hinge greatly on how those loose threads impact your play, because you can't count on a fix.

Clearly, you escaped from the underworld like a named demon.

Anyway, I'll probably return to the upper boards (i.e. above gen. discussion of df) for a week or two, lurk on the draw your adventures thread in order to see shook comics and the like, and then crawl back down the addy tube and wander the Forum Games and Roleplaying Section, the 7th ring of fire, playing dungeons and dragons.

Frankly I don't know whether to use DF Fort or Adventure mode first. I'll probably open up Adventure then Dwarf mode since Adventure mode is simpler, but more or less be simultaneous. Forums will be manic, it's going to be utter chaos. Which is good really.

I try to balance between the Upper and lower boards. I'm not very good at that, but I try.

Since theres no way I'd be able to do fort mode without DT, I'll definetly be doing adventure mode some, perhaps arena mode as well.

Ooo and Legends mode. Man, that'll be a sight to see: I've always loved Legends mode, and now it'll be really cool with so many new events. Pity that the Legends viewer won't work.

Oh shit. The Legends mode!
It's like every world has its own Wikipedia (or Wikia, really) (and that's what Legends mode is about...Mostly).

Can't wait to read all those stories and visit those fabled places.

I'll go adventure mode for a while, mostly because I don't like the idea of comitting to a fort and then having the game patch with no compatibility :\

No one forces you to upgrade game. You can have two different installed DFs in system, you know.
