Leaving the Guild Office, it appears that the rain has let up. There is about 90 minutes before the shops close. There is a blacksmith, a tanner, a trinket shop, a fletchery, and an enchanter's workshop in the immediate area. You can now see an inn over by the district wall. The people moving supplies have posted guards but seem to be working steadily on.

Walking into the tanner's workshop, you a hit by an absolutely vile stench. After a few minutes of coughing, cursing, and getting used to the smell, you find the tanner in the back.
Hello?
Yah? Whatcha need?
Er, do you have anything for sale?
Of course ah do. Ah got some treated hides, if yeh need 'em. Ah also have some scrap pieces a armor.
That's great, what armor do you have?
Oh, ah got a list of my stuff around here somewhere.
The man gets up and retrieves a piece of paper.
Yah, here you go. Let me know if yeh want ta buy somethin'
He hands you the list.

Deciding to ignore the tannery incident, you and Mel head over to the blacksmith's shop. Inside, the clanking of hammer on iron and the sizzle of hot steel in water fills your ears. Managing the counter is a boy that appears to be younger than you by a couple of years. He must be an apprentice.
Oh, hi! Did you come to buy something? We have lots of swords and axes and armor and stuff if you need it. All at the greatest prices!
That's good. What swords do you have for sale?
Well we have lots of swords. We have shortswords, longswords, broadswords, sabers, claymores... you get the idea! We have it all!

Show him Mel's sword, and ask him what would be one step up from that. Or if it could be improved.


On a side note, briefly wonder how the small place you woke up in suddenly became a town large enough to have districts.
