Well, she IS mysterious..... :P
Also all wounds healed, remember? Mel is no longer deaf

Well it could be genetic in which case it's less of a wound and more of a mutation.

Well mutations that deviate from the basic template and are negative qualify as diseases.

And therefore healing should remove them.

Well yeah but how did the healing work? If it was based on restoring the body to the norm it probably got that information from genetic code.

((Let's go with rare magic-resistant disease/childhood injury. If you want instead, Mel can have deafness (because reasons) but have it magically healed later on.))
Jon casts Push on the large rat. He hits it, but the rat quickly recovers.
Mel attacks a rat, slashing it for 4 damage.

The large rat swipes at Jon, but it misses.
A rat jumps at Mel's head, and hits the shield. (0 Defend left)
The wounded rat tries to bite Jon, but hits his shield. (1 Defend left)
A rat strikes at Mel. It gets off a grazing hit, but can't pierce her armor.

((Doesn't Mel have a hearing aid?))

Jon: Block on Mel again.
Mel: Slash the closest rat.

Jon attempts to stab the rat, but it dodges out of the way!
Following suit, Mel attacks another rat. She hits it, dealing 4 damage!

Using it's sharp things, the large rat bites Mel but does not penetrate her armor.
The newly injured rat swipes at Jon. Luckily, he sidesteps and the attack misses.
The last rat imitates the other, and hits Jon. However, the shield protects him. (0 Defends left)
